Re: E87 vanos issues.. pulling my hair out, please help!
hi, yes it has ran since doing the timing chain, it’s runnig lumpy with the same knocking, took the rocker cover off to listen to the engine to make sure it wasn’t valve contact and all the knocking is coming from the top vanos pulley. The timing wasn’t out, he’s checked it 4 times and it seems to b...

E87 vanos issues.. pulling my hair out, please help!
Hi everyone, so last week my partner bought a E87 from an auction... and if you aren't already holding your head in dismay (personally it's way too modern for me with its push button start!) please read on.. 'Hi all, I bought a 2005 E87 with a 116i N45 engine from the auctions last week, the car was...

Engine hunting on idle.. M42/318is
Hi everyone, need some advice please, my engine is hunting on idle whenever it gets up to temperature. So a bit of history to let you know whats already been checked etc: Engine was originally not idling until it was warm, then when warm, idling fine, I wanted to get to the bottom of it not idling w...

Re: Engine Swap Ideas..
Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I am rather tempted to put an M42 with a super charger in.. is it the Eaton M45 out of a Mini Cooper that bolts right on? I think I would struggle with anything that wasn't BMW.. and the M52 swap was what I started in my other black one Brian, but I came unstuck...

Hi everyone, So i've bought another E30, this time a 4 door chromie, its currently without an engine and I'm toying with what to put in it. Re: Fuel Line Match up Question!! M42 Engine Please help
Thankyou so much for clarifying! Got to the bottom of it now, took all the tape off and those two wires had been added on and presumably the previous car the engine was in had a start button so those two wires just had to be joined up! Just been to get some fresh fuel and hoping she should run tonig...

Re: Fuel Line Match up Question!! M42 Engine Please help
I worked out the feed being the lower one, then thought the black leading to the fpr meant that was the feed but I'm obviously wrong! Thankyou for clarifying, I only connected them up last night, didn't get it running as have a few more questions... I have a purple/black and a red/yellow wire taped ...

Re: No spark on 318is
Hey thanks for all that info, think you nailed it with the duff eco comment- ran through the trouble shooter again and it led me to 'replace ecu'. Have ordered a new one- will it be a simple plug in and play or will the ignition etc have to be re coded for this ecu?
Many thanks

Re: Was anyone here (recently) driving an E30 at 17/18 y/o?
I was 17/18 and driving an E30 only a couple of years ago, insurance was around £1600 I think and that was for a 320 so your price definitely sounds realistic

Re: No spark on 318is
Thanks so much for your response.
The ECU is getting red hot with the ignition on, hot to the point I can't keep my hand on it so would suggest something is wrong with it?
Is there anyway to test if it's faulty?
Brilliant thankyou - when's good to pop round and pick it up...

No spark on 318is
Hi everyone, recently took my M42 engine out to do some welding work on the car and since putting it back in I cannot get a spark at all. It was running fine before I took it out, and I think I have re-connected everything properly but it would appear not to be the case! I have power at the coil pac...

Not posted for a while, to cut a long story short, put the M52 engine in in August, took the entire car to pieces to complete the wiring, lost all love for her with this new engine so on a sunday afternoon recently, I forklifted the M52 out and popped her old one back in.... then had the pleasure of...

Also quick Question for the last leg of the putting back together: Where does heater resistor go? The last piece of the dash puzzle is being put together this evening!
Thankyou!

Yes I believe so! - If only I'd found that pipe before the whole engine swap malarky... Engines running great, I haven't took her for a drive yet as need to connect clutch up and attach seats etc. Have pretty much finished all interior wiring and put the dash etc back in, a few minor things t...

Re: Engine revving flat out, won't idle properly
FIXED! Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. It ended up being that tiny pipe that goes from behind the throttle body onto just below the manifold, it had split open, only saw it today when taking the inlet manifold off. amazing that such a tiny thing can cause so much of a problem!

Re: What length is a 318is/M42 Gear Linkage?
Thanks Brian for that, really helpful.
I've extended the linkage and from that wire can see which is the E30 Shift - strange to think the design did not change one bit in 15 years!

What length is a 318is/M42 Gear Linkage?
Does anyone know the exact length of a 318is/M42 Gear Linkage? I've had the gearbox out of the car and am know putting it back in, i've found a bmw linkage in the garage but it seems too short so could be from an E46 gearbox and if so I've lost the E30 one and may extend this one... If anyone knows ...
