4cyl power steering pump compatibility?

Hi.
Just wandering. Is the power steering pump on a 318i M40 compatible with any other engines or cars?

Re: 86 316 fried engine? Smoke/Steam/overheating.

The belt would have snapped when the alternator light came on. I'd check the pump and alternator.
It might be as simple as the alternator adjuster slipped and the belt went slack and started to slip. If changing the pump I'd fit a new thermostat.

I'd check the coolant temperature sensor resistance at the ECU plug.

Many years ago I took a Webber conversion from a 1.8 golf mk2 and fitted to a 316. Had to make a plate to fit the air filter but it worked well.

Re: Would this sound like a fuel pump gone?

Just pulled the pump apart. The commutator had one section that had less than 0.5mm band of copper left on it . Brushes had loads left but scored. I might have a go at draining the tank over Christmas, thought it would be spotless seeing it gets filled up every 2 weeks! Brian I don't know how far yo...

Re: Would this sound like a fuel pump gone?

Thank you Brian I had chuckle as I tapped it and the the car came to life! Took the pump out it was now at 2 ohms took it down to my local Electro Diesel and it turns out they had exactly the same Bosch pump that looked like its been in stock for 20 years. All soldered in now took about 3 hours with...

Would this sound like a fuel pump gone? Yes

Hi all
I'm not getting any fuel! I tried strapping out the relay but no joy. Then I went from the plug 87 (pump feed) to earth with the meter and found 620k ohms would this sound like a blown fuel pump?
The car is a 91 M40.
Thanks Broadie

Re: Which engine oil do you use :-) ?

Is there a 10w-40 fully synthetic oil out there which I could use. I guess that it would be better then the castrol magnatec I am looking to use which is part synthetic. The quantum platinum 10/40 I use is full synthetic and meets BMW LL4 its actually made for vw PD engines that are hard on cams. I...

As Brian said with the bulb is good, but I prefer to use a 12volt buzzer so I can concentrate on where I'm prodding.

Wouldn't bother with a 12valve.
I must say for shear corner speed the m40 touring is the most balanced car I've ever come across. I think a K20 could well be even better.

Re: problems with people respecting your choice of car

I effing love people like you. In the bike world the bigbore bike riders must be in front then they find out they can't actually ride at the pace that they insisted on leading at.
If you want to race do it for the crack of it.
If not
I suggest you stick to playing toptrumps.
