Re:

Physics. If you are moving the rack the same distance with fewer turns you have to use more effort to do it. Ben Makes sense mate, physics not one of my strong suits :? I'll be looking for the associated p/steer bits for it too now. I hope it's well worth it. Certainly make parallel parking easier!!

Yep wasn't thinking there :o: as it's a p/steer rack. So I take it fitting the pump etc is a bolt on job or do I have to get any special brackets?

Re:

You do know that the steering will be even heavier with this rack? Ben  Any reason for this? It couldn't get any worse on my car really. It's been lowered, has a strut brace so I thought that might be a contributing factor. It's horrible to live with but I can manage. Just hate the turn to tur...

Steering Rack change on 320i

Hi As I'm using the E30 more and more I'm fed up of the slow rack, the car not having p/steering doesn't help. If I want to swap it with a later rack do I have to change the UJ's also? I'm not doing an engine conversion yet, in the future will do. Also thoughts on these items please (is this rack an...

Yes indeed, a whoosh

So, seems like I can ignore it, well for the short term anyway.

I will check the pipes though just in case. Just broke a 318, could have used the bits from that if possible but it's gone now. Damn!

Thanks fellas 8)

320i - Hissing brakes

Hi folks The car seems to have developed a hissing sound when pressing the brake pedal. When switched off the pedal seems hard and with engine on the hissing comes from the glovebox area every time the brake pedal is pressed. Braking seems a little less effective than before (car has uprated discs a...

320i Steering rack upgrades - thoughts please

Afternoon all I've read the Wiki but just wanted to get some user feedback from members who have upgraded their steering racks. My 320i has a manual rack and although I can live with the heavy steering it's the lock to lock I hate. I have an opportunity to get a Z3 rack. Anyone done a conversion her...

Fitting Z3 steering rack to 320i - upgrade

Hi folks I want to upgrade to a Z3 rack on the E30 which currently has a manual rack. Been doing a fair bit of reading and there seems to be various opinions with most saying the Z3 rack is by far the best etc although some have concerns about twitchiness at high speeds. Has anyone on here carried o...

Inspection Lights after reset

Afternoon all I bought one of those Draper reset tools and reset the inspection lights on the car this weekend. Re: 4x100 spare wheel neededtoday anyone local?

Sorry to hijack the thread but it's on the same subject, spare wheels that is!! My 320i doesn't have a spare, what size should I get for it? It's on 15" rims at the moment so will a 15" spare fit in the well or do I have to get a 14" with a higher profile tyre?
