Re: performance cam ?????
compression is the biggest factor to consider with cam choice, otherwise you will just end up robbing Paul without paying Peter! 272 is a good all round cam for mild compression, 288 will only work well with more comp and as pointed out PV clearance usually needs to be addressed. Ibs are good on ANY...

Re: M20 rocker arm replacement.
sometimes they move easy (as they should) and sometimes they can be a real bitch, just try to twist it back and forth while sliding it along and as mentioned dont grab the shaft too tight and be REALLY careful you dont mark it or you will have no chance of getting it out, i use a little piece of a l...

Re: JB weld
I use it in ports all the time. People who say it will eventually fall out obviously either dont know what they are talking about or didnt clean / prep the surface properly. I have heard stories of people having it in wet ports for over 10 years and still going strong..... so it WONT fall out!!! per...

ecu master EMU.... 10x better than megasquirt! and really well priced, used them on a few m20's now and cant fault it, directly reads the triger etc, nothing additional needed

Re: ITB's on a stock m20
our own ones www.racehead.com.au I really wanted to get this onfo out because so many people have a go at fitting itbs and make all the classic mistakes of fitting the wring size and give them a bad name, i made the same mistake years ago and people just dont realize the importance of air velocity. ...

ITB's on a stock m20
Here is an example of a back to back test we did fitting a set of our ITB's to a stock standard 325i engine, this is a high milage engine and the only modifications are a set of average headers and a single tail pipe base power was 112Kw or 150Hp which is about right looking at other peoples results...

i think you will find m10 4cyl and m30 6cyl are the same, also m20 6cyl and m50 6cyl etc the same
Not sure about m40 but my guess is its the same as m10/m30 so not much you can do apart from find an m20 6cyl gearbox

Re: That pesky M20 tick
Heres some wide experience and a cure!!.... bare with me i will explain why this happens the reason they TICK is because the valve clearance is too wide and most people set them the wrong way, the setting is supposed to be 010 (0.25mm) at the valve but on anything but new refurbished head the little...

this is at the wheels on a chassis dyno, engine power possibly 25% higher. The money spent on this is not as high as one might think. It mostly takes a carefully matched set of parts and a really good head porting job. link about the build here http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117701 ht...

Re: M20 oversize valves
anything bigger than 43mm needs biger seats installed there are a few ford engines with 7mm stem valves that are much longer and bigger then needed, sometimes nice stainless ones can be had for about $15 each, then if you can find a race shop who does custon valve work its not a big job to have head...

Re:
the M20 ratios are for a 320i rally class, not much good for big hp, zf bolts straight up to motor, crossmember needs slight mod for slight angle change, and you have option of 4, 5 or 6 speed with ZF also, RRP is 4000euro for 5 speed, 4800 for 6 speed, then there is optional shifter, GST etc, I ca...

ratios all listed here- http://samsonas.com/?page_id=234 easiest option is E36 328i/3 litre M3 Zf case price depends on current exchange rate, but cheaper than PPG/Holinger/Albins the listed ratios for m20... etc look like they are from a front wheel drive they are very odd?? are they for a gettrag...

Re:
I will bet my left testicle the valve train wont last a season with 14mm valve lift! I have done a lot of work with m20 rocker geometry and at that sort of lift you are into some very harsh rocker ratio's the loading over the nose of the lobe will be massive, but i guess in its favor with big 280 od...

i dont want to rain on what is a great looking project but one of the essential components to successful ITB conversion is air velocity, without that the engine will just loose power everywhere and its the most common mistake made by nearly everyone. Try to keep the manifold extensions and rubber jo...

Re: M20 320i Noisey tappets
big mistake most people make is setting the clearance to 010 between the cam and follower which is the only way to do it because the eccentric usually makes a hollow in the tip of the valve stem so its impossible to get an accurate setting using a feeler gauge in this location BUT!!! when you set us...

I have also developed a force model for the valves which has allowed me to get accurate rocker loads for any given rpm and point in the valve curve so have been able to run some pretty accurate FEA simulations of the rockers. I'm currently working on a mathematical model that allows cam profiles to...

Re: 325i cylinder head inlet port
something interesting to note: the 200 head came standard on all e21's with mechanical injection which has a big spring loaded flap in the intake and old school transistor ignition, max power was about 140hp and torque was 151ftlb Then on the e30 they went to the 731 head along with EFI, possibly le...
