might have a bigger flange than your 325i box (the flange that bolts to the driveshaft)

there is a different fuse for the gas&speedo and rev&temp gauges, I guess this is one of the obvious reasons but its worth a shot

Check if your fuel pump (the one under the rear seats) is firmly fastened and that the o-ring around it is OK.

you can fit one inside the car and one in the boot, but you cant close the boot so youll have to bring a rope or string of some sort to fasten the bootlid. I have actually done this

As Ian states the 6speed fits and you can allways run a cluch and flywheel from the car the gearbox came from

The 6speed is 10kg heavier than the 5speed ... but there is allways the cool factor of having 6 gears

actually all cabrios have the "facelifted" rear arches so you should not
have any trouble with the right mounting parts

is there a good ground strap from engine to body ?

Have you checked that the spark plugs aint making a spark or are you guesing ?
Are you sure the engine is getting fuel (are the fuel lines connected right)

what year is the ecu made

some e28's have the 3,46 ratio.

you need e30 outputflanges and cover though

you could also install a switch on the fuel pump so it wont get power
unless the switch is on
