Underdrive Pulleys
Is anyone running underdrive pulleys on a M52 here? Just wondering if they are worth the $$$ and what sort of gains they provide. I already have a lightened flywheel so it revs up nice and freely so I expect the pulleys will not really help much if at all.

Re: M52 tapping noise
Sounds good, I'm using the 2 speed aircon fan as well. I've knocked up a loom for a single speed fan but haven't hooked it up yet. Should be pretty easy to add some more wires to run the low speed so will probably do that. I don't have a garage to work in so it looks like I will be making slow progr...

Re: New M54 engine swap forum.
Sounds good! Would be good to hear how you get on! With the flywheel, I suppose you could run a singlemass 240mm unit with a sprung clutch plate from an E36 M3. Don't hold your breath, :D going to be a while as I have quite a bit going on at the moment. I'm just doing a parts hunt and getting it st...

Re: New M54 engine swap forum.
So it sounds like the following would work with the M54B30. Usual M52 swap stuff: - ZF 328i/M3 gearbox - E36 328i prop with E30 CSB reversed - E36 Engine arms - E28 Engine mounts - M20 Flywheel/starter/clutch (or just stick with the E46 dual mass set up with standard starter and clutch) - E34 M50 su...

Re: M52 tapping noise
Cool. I will add that to the ever growing list of jobs to get done before I can get it on the road! Just another quick question - did you use a 2 speed fan or single speed? I've used the auxillary fan from my donor car and trimmed it down so it sits nicely in front of the rad. Was thinking of just u...

I think I have the same problem! Will try tightening the sump bolts slightly and see if that works. Did you manage to change the gasket with the engine in situ?

Re: M52 harness questions
I used an auto loom from an E36 and trimmed it down to fit. The auto part of the loom comes away quite easily and you can delete the traction control wiring and a few other bits as well. I can send you some pin out diagrams if you need them - you can use them to make sure you're not cutting anything...

Re: M40 Propshaft for M52 swap
I have a 328i ZF box and prop in the garage so can measure the overall length for you. You should then be able to work out which prop you need by taking away the length of your M42 box and comparing it to the E30 prop lengths on the wiki. It's not ideal, but maybe worth a go if you can't get any def...

Re: Clio Servo
Yeh, I think it wasn't located properly when I fitted the master cylinder as the brakes pipes were still connected so it was a bit all over the place. I spent ages sanding down the servo and painting it so it is a bit annoying! I will disconnect the master cylinder and fit it before bolting up the s...

Re: Clio Servo
I took my M/C off and the push rod from the servo has sheared off! Need to track down a new servo now. Sorting these brakes out is taking far too long! What I might do this time is buy a threaded rod which is the right pitch/thread as the clio one and just replace the push rod so I dont need a spacer.

Hopefully it will stay leak free!
I just checked the Bentley manual and it says to use sealant, however I think I will do a dry assembly like you have done. It would be useful to know how you get on with it.

Re: Clio Servo
I think the part number is 8200 192 616. You need a servo from a mk2 clio 1.2 so 2001 to 2005. The one I have is a Bosch one which is approximately 220mm wide. There is an ATF one on certain Clio's which I think is too wide. JoeyB - yes, I did have to use a spacer. On the E30 servo that I removed, t...

Flywheel Refacing Question
How many times can a M20 flywheel be refaced? I have one which looks like it has been refaced already because it doesn't have the small step where the cover plate bolts to it. Just wondering if it will be ok to reface it again or will it get too thin for the clutch to operate properly?

I just done mine this weekend. Can post up some pics I took if that helps. Pedal feels a lot firmer compared to the standard set up. Re: Best starting model
Personally, I think the best starting model is one that is structurally sound, i.e. minimal rust! Don't worry too much if it is a lower spec model as I expect you will be upgrading the suspension anyway. I would take it as an opportunity to refresh the brakes and rear end etc, i.e. put in some new b...

Re: Black Canisters
Thanks Gavt. I think the second cannister is the vacuum for the exhaust muffler flap so will be getting rid of that. Still deciding whether to ditch the oil separator as the M50 manifold doesn't have the hold to mount it. Might just run the rocker cover outlet to the intake elbow (as shown in the M5...

I'm in the process of preparing the engine before it goes into the car and just wanted to check what I need to do with the two black canisters which appear to be connected to the intake system. Did you have any luck getting to the bottom this? I'm thinking of using the E28 (non-m5) mounts as well and would like to know if they work without using any spacers.
I thought it was the hexagonal mount needed for both sides rather than the round one you have provided a link to.

I've started stripping the engine out of my donor car and the engine loom has been fairly straightforward to disconnect. I'm planning on using the loom tables to attach a C101 connector. However, I've noticed that there is a plug that attaches to a sensor on top of the throttle body which is not con...
