Ok so at no point does it run through the engine ecu? Where does the ignition switch get its supply from? A direct feed straight from the battery?

Fuel pumps should engage first, the engine doesn't start spinning before the pump is engaged. Because fuel needs to be pressurised to the rail quickly so the engine starts immediately.
