Thanks for your help guys. Thats what we thought - not possible to get the cam wrong if you time it up properly which we are sure we have done.
It may be that the previous bodge owners were out before and now the leads are correct? who know

What are peoples thoughts on the whole timing/ 180 degrees out situation? To new i cant really see how i can be 180 degrees out but everywhere i read says i can. And it did work with HT leads moved to opposites/180 degrees. If this is indeed possible would this effect fueling/injector firing sequenc...

Thanks for the reply speedtouch. We have let it idle for approx 10 mins but havent had chance to take it properly for a run of any real length, the guide mentions needing a while of running for it to leanr settings so this may be the case. That is reassuring that it will work with a standard cam as ...

ETA build a couple of issues...
Hello guys, I would very much appreciate your valuable input to a few issues i have with my very recent engine build.... I have an 885 head with a late ETA bottom end, hartge H26 exhaust manifold and Speedhunter 2.7 C2 chip. The head was bought from a well known BMW "expert" in the wellington area o...

Ive researched the engine weights and they are as follows: M10 83kgs M40 81kgs M42 100kgs M20 117kgs I think that makes for very interesting reading, the m20 is a bit lighter than i was expecting and the M42 seems heavy. Given this is budget engine i guess a simple M10 or M40 is the one to go for. D...

M10 turbo
Hello chaps, i have really been mulling over lots of different engine ideas in my head for nearly a year now and really cant decide which way to go. I currently have considered everything from turboing my current m20b25 to the usual engine conversions as well as jap stuff although i couldnt bring my...

M20 tuning
Hello guys i just have a questions regarding MAF conversion. I am aiming to tune my m20 2.5 to approx 200bhp. The numbers are less important than how the engine feels to drive and response etc. It is for my fast road/track car/sprint car for which there are strict regs. I want to keep it 2.5 for thi...

I would be keen im building a fast road/sprint 325 and the manifold is the most important part for good power. dont want to spent 1 k though! Does anyone on here have access/the ability to weld manifolds because we could buy one to use and copy it. i however cannot weld shit otherwise i would be chu...

Re: M20B25 downdraft weber idf build ideas

Re: M20B25 downdraft weber idf build ideas
interesting link guys thanks. i think programmable spak is defo way to go like you say but just as a top gap it might be easy to use 320i dizzy.
in terms of manifolds anyon know of any downdraught ones out there. ive been searcging alot but no luck guessing custom might be the only way

M20B25 downdraft weber idf build ideas

best bang for buck when building an engine to regulations isnt irrelevant 8O you are limited in terms of what you can do by the regulations. Thus for me i cant really do anything to the bottom end because then i will be in a class with scoobies. So it seems that without going to a 2.7 bottom end and...

opinions are all welcome, thanks hoobs. I wouldnt even think twice about going down the m52 route if it wasnt for the class regulations. If i run anything other than an e30 engine i would have to go into the sports libre or rally car class which im not absolutley against but would mean a massive bud...

[quote]I get the feeling that you are not very comfortable with modifying your car. This quick rack conversion is literally childs play compared with your target of 220-230bhp from an M20 b25. Do you know what you're getting yourself into? [quote] To say im not comfortable modifying my car is a bit ...

Ok so if the m42 has a great flowing head as standard then why is 180bhp not easily achievable? Something doesnt add up, surely with a good exhaust manifold and induction it should piss 100bhp/litre. I dont want to chuck a load of money at it though and not get anywhere. Plus even with a useable 180...

Interesting thoughts guys and its nice to see interest in this thread developing again :) i still find it hard to understand why the m42 isnt tunable. surely 100bhp/litre should be achievable for most engines and why is the m42 different? Decent headwork, the right cam, throttle bodies, good exhaust...

Wow screech what a tread and what diligent work on the flowbench. Respect! Im very interested to say the least. Due to class regs i will have to stay with my standard bottom end plus some lightening/balancing and a refresh so cant stroke my engine. A lot of this threads content is pretty complicated...

Thats another good point you raise Alan! I have certainly all to quickly recieved the same response regarding m42 tuning when i have asked around. As far as my limited knowledge of engine building goes i always thought any decent 16v engine is always good for 100bhp per litre so why should the m42 b...

God yes i love the s14! what a noise! Decisions, decisions...... given that article Alan found and the metric mechanics article a m42 with about 180-200bhp seems achievable doesnt it with standalone ecu, cam, decent induction and a bit of head work. If that really is achievable then i think that wou...
