Re: Stolen parts Scotland

You've my sympathy - I was woken at 4am today by some scrotes with replica pistols trying to get into our garage who'd gone to the trouble beforehand of cutting the tyre valves of any vehicle I could have made it out to the road with.

It seems the season has started, again. Hope your stuff turns up.

As Brian says, the struts are a straight swap from 45mm to 51mm units. Completely interchangeable.

If they've not managed to remove the top nut yet - no.

If the damper body is seized into the strut - yes.

Re: This can't be right?

Thing is, if the damper does not want to come out, which as above can on occasion happen, would you be happier for the firm to spend X billable hours trying and perhaps failing, or rather letting you know that it's seized in place?

Re: This can't be right?

All tourings had 51mm struts, but certainly not all 318i's.

Incidentally, it's not unknown, albeit rare, for dampers to seize in the strut.

Funny how time changes things. I can still clearly remember trying to find a set of bottletops for my first E30 back in 1989 - I had a 1987 316i on bare silver steels, and my mate had the same but with wheel trims so I was naturally desperate to out do him. BBS's were out of the question!
