Re: M20 sump baffle
I have fitted one of these scrapers for my m20 2.8 while the engine was on the stand. Bloody time consuming because you have to have 1mm clearance between the crank and the scraper in any location, so its a matter of trial fitting, getting a 1mm feeler gauge, rotating the crank and marking where the...

Re: That pesky M20 tick
Hey mate, good to see you on here. Do you recommend setting the tappets when its cold or hot? I had better results with my "tick" when I set them hot. I am going to try 6 thou at the cam. The one thing is, I did have the tick straight away after I built the engine, with had a full head reco but I le...

M52B28 Crank
M20B23 or M20B27 Rods
9.7 M20B25 Pistons (Flycut for larger cam)
+ deck block 0.5mm and add VAC motorsports Adjustable cam pulley.
Cam: 288 Schrick
JB Racing Flywheel
IE HD rockers
All this would make a very nice M20 with mid 10's compression as Reggid says.

Re: Can a 885 head be replaced by a 731
My next stroker build I want to do I am going to use a 731 head, so I can run flat-top pistons and get the compression right up. Just trying to find a 731 head here in Aus is a bit a of a challenge unless I buy a whole motor which i don't have room for...

Re: S14 in RHD shell with E90 rack
Hey mate, I have not seen a 320is downunder, probably my favourite e30, I might even like it more than an E30 M3 (which i have just bought). Where abouts are you in Aus? I don't know about the E90 rack conversion, being bigger probably won't hurt as a e36 rack is smaller than the e30 rack and requir...

Re: M20 Speedtouch mild chip fitted
Yes I had his chip fitted to my car when it was semi-stock, nice chip. I then ran with it while I was running in my 2.8 stroker with a Dbilas 276 cam and alloy flywheel, and the car was totally fine with the stock AFM and computer and that chip. I am now running the WAR chip and MAF conversion, and ...

Re: M20B28 Cam Advice
I am running a 276 dbilas cam in my M20B28, and metric mechanic beehive valve springs, which I tested and have the same tension as the stock dual valve springs, just in one light spring. I chose this cam for its good dynamic compression qualities, and high valve lift (11.5mm). IMO it suits a short r...

Re: M20B28 build - early high compression piston skirt machi
For the ITBs I'm going to try hacking up an intake manifold so I can keep the stock injector locations and welding an adapter plate to it so I can bolt up some bike throttle bodies. I've been looking at the Triumph 675 throttle bodies because they come in sets of 3 and are separable. They are 44mm ...

Re: M20B28 build - early high compression piston skirt machi
I am hoping they are just taking some time to settle in. the Dbilas cam specs say 2mm clearance minimum, as that is what I achieved with the 2.5mm MLS head gasket. Everything is new in the head, new Febi rockers, new eccentrics, head fully reconditioned. I just didn't replace the bolts and nuts for ...

Re: M20B28 build - early high compression piston skirt machi
So the 288 was causing the valves to hit, and increasing valve clearance? Got any more info on this? I have 2mm clearance for my pistons to valves, I hope that is enough. I might borrow a bore-o-scope and have a squiz inside. The reason being is my tappets are requiring constant adjustment, they hav...

Here will give you an idea of how much to cut the pistons for the valve reliefs: http://forums.eurocca.net/showthread.php/39849-M20-Cam-Profiles-revisited I would say around a 1mm recess extra on both intake and exhaust to be sure. But you will find that out when you trial fit everything. Measure yo...

Re: M20B28 build - early high compression piston skirt machi
Nice combo for a high comp build! Go the 9.7 Mahles, copy the ks skirt shape, and away you go. How much clearance are you going to go with the piston skirts to crank? 1-2mm? Are you going to deck the block? Or leave the deck as is, and you will have room for the 288 cam. If you were to deck the bloc...

Re: E36 M3 Throttles
I don't think it is worth doing, IMO the throttles are too big for the 2V M20. If you ran the throttles far enough away from the head you could taper down nicely to match the intake port, but you are limited with room to do this.
40mm throttle butterflies are ideal.
Who has done a bike carb setup?

say with a tolerance, the specs give you a max measurement of 10.5 mm, and a minimum of 10.3mm. then blueprinting that part would be coming up with a measurement of exactly 10.4mm, half way between the minimum and the maximum tolerance. that is my take on blueprinting anyway. very time consuming and...

Re: Increased compression
Be careful skimming the head too much. You need minimum .030 clearance between head and pistons, and .060 thou clearance between valves and pistons. I fitted a head which was around 124.4mm thick, I think stock thickness is 125.5. So My head had 1.1mm skimmed off it after several rebuilds. to get th...

OK fair enough, would like to hear an m20 at 8000 rpms!
I would be curious to know if they used the stock timing belt, I am not sure it would be suitable for high revving, high precision valve trains.

Re: full fat m20b25 spec
The problem with going past 8000 rpm's is the 2v head with the funky rocker design that has conniptions above 7000-7500rpms. I would be happy with peak power in the low 7's, like 7300rpm or something. That's enough of a revver for me.... I have been recently told that the early cast cranks like the ...

To me it sounds like a vacuum leak, very common on these motors. If you can get access to a smoke machine that is the best test. Check the attachments to the throttle body, esp the ones to the booster. Also there is a way to rebuild/repair your idle valve: http://socale30.com/theforum/viewtopic.php?...

In my 2.8 build I have decked the block .5 (or just under .5) mm to get the pistons back up to the factory height using the 130mm rods and b25 pistons. My head has been machined a few times, so I have run the thicker gasket (2.05mm). So my 2.8 is going to have some nice compression.

Reggid should chime in here, he is pretty knowledgable on camshafts. Your bottom end power will depend on your compression ratio.... Stock compression ratio is 8.8 so a 288 cam will be a dog on a stock motor. I went with a DBilas 276 cam for better low end power, even though my comp will be up aroun...
