Re: Miller MAF and chip upsetting 325is OBC13

You are quite correct. Pin 12 is no longer connected to anything, and the grey/white coming from the engine bay is spliced into the red/blue. The ECU is fine and the car runs smoother and is a bit more responsive down low and feels that it has more urge up top. I have tried 3 different chips in it, ...

Miller MAF and chip upsetting 325is OBC13

Does anyone have a solution for my problem? I just fitted a Gen 3 Miller MAF and chip to my E30 325is, and now the OBC is showing the fault code PPPP except for time and date. PPPP, according to the Bentley manual, is the code that a wiring problem has been detected. The install calls for the cuttin...

Re: OBC Problems

Pulled the dash out today. Some weird wiring loop on the green Cruise Control insert. Took it off, cleaned every contact I could see and tried again. Cruise control now works! Happy days. Only problem - lost the swing-o-meter. It goes to the far right under full throttle, and sits hard to the left f...

Re: OBC Problems

I pressed the 1000 and the 1 together, and it came back with 5.0, and hasn't moved after a 5k trip. The fuel gauge reckons about 15litres and the distance to empty is saying a bit over 50, which may be somewhat correct, given that the average consumption is 9.8/100k. It also puts the wrong fuel pump...

Re: OBC Problems

I ran it out of fuel - accidentally I may add - the low fuel light was only on for about 3kms - but by pure chance I managed to coast into a fuel station. It took 50 litres to fill. I remember thinking that it it must have a 318 tank in it, but then I remembered what it looked like, and it def. seem...

OBC Problems

I have just retro-fitted a 13 OBC to my '88 325is, but it has some problems: 1) The cruise control no longer works. I thought that maybe I had dislodged a wire from the column control or under the dash or something equally silly, but I checked everything and no obvious problem. The "kit" came with a...

Re: Petrol low warning light

Mine came on once and I traveled 7km before it ran out of fuel. Quite annoying. In all fairness, I did swap sensor and fuel pump over from my damaged 325is fuel tank to a replacement tank, which looked the same as the original, but curiously, only holds 50 litres and is inaccurate regarding the low ...

Re: e30 325i fuel pump advice

I had a lot of fuel pump problems about 4 years ago in my '88 325is. I ended up getting a new pump off eBay for about $70. Not had a problem with it in 4 years, and from memory, fitting it was a no-brainer. I would recommend removing the original 1st and ensuring that the replacement looks the same....

Re: Fuel economy

Hi again all. I've had a few weeks to play with the car, and the economy is actually no better. Checked the resistance again and although it is linear, it is way too slow to react across the range. 80% of the increase comes in 25% of the movement. I still reckon the AFM is ready for the tip. Has any...

Re: Fuel economy

Hi all. I opened up the AFM and had a play with the wiper and moved it to an unswept portion of the carbon track. Checked resistance, and it is now linear. Of course, it ran like a pig because the spring tension had been interfered with, but I moved it about until it stopped knocking and idled clean...

Re: Fuel economy

Had a look at the video - Now it all makes sense. I remember my mechanic mate pulled that cover off and ratted around with the lean/rich adjustment. It did idle and drive better, but that was obviously masking a problem with the worn out resistor track. The video says that the setting shouldn't be c...

The AFM can be repaired by moving the wiper to an unsweeped section of the carbon track.[/quote] Um ..er ..OK .. What? Fuel economy

Hi all. I've got a 1989 325is with 225k on the clock and 3.9 diff gears. Urban fuel economy is currently 350K (215 miles) on 50 litres (11 gallons) of 91 octane fuel = 19.5mpg. Is this any good? I've been told that 2.5 manuals should give 25 mpg around town. I don't usually drive like a loon... I've...

325is eats fuel pumps

Hi all. My 88 325is has been eating fuel pumps. When I bought the car, the fuel pump was dead. The seller kindly replaced the pump, and the car started and I drove 100 miles home. The pump was very noisy, bu seemed to work ok. I got the car home and stripped it for the full respray and suspension ov...

Hi all. I have an Australian delivered October 1988 build 325is. I just went to order a set of eibach springs, and find that there are 2 part numbers listed for my vehicle, with the change over date as October, 1988. Vehicles post 10/88 are supposed to weigh an extra 40kg on each axle. I don't recal...

Re: Will OBC still work with stand-alone engine management?

Just to complicate the issue, here's another question. No OBC's available in Australia. It's a numbers game. No complete OBC's available in the UK (atm); Several complete OBC's available in the USA. Australian capacity works in metric (liters), UK in imperial (gallons etc), and the Americans don't u...

Re: Will OBC still work with stand-alone engine management?

Hi. I'm in Australia, and the engine has a MoTeC computer. Don't know if you've heard of it over there, but here, all the pro racing guys use MoTeC. It's supposed to be a big deal, with data logging, boost control and a dozen other things I have no use for. The actual tune wasn't too bad, it was the...

Re: Will OBC still work with stand-alone engine management?

Drat! I'm actually an electrical fool. I had no idea about one signal per sensor. I would imagine it'd be quite difficult to set up duplicate sensors. TPS jumps to mind - can't think how to do it.... Can't go piggy-back, as already have the motor tuned to the stand alone, at hideous cost. But I real...

Will OBC still work with stand-alone engine management?

Hi all. I have just purchased an Australian E30 325is (which I haven't actually seen yet...oh dear...) and to my horror, I have discovered that it was never optioned with a very desirable, and I would have thought, necessary, option - an OBC. I have read the Wiki on retrofitting an OBC and it all se...

325IS Runs for 10sec then stops

Hi. Can anyone suggest a cure? I'm trying to purchase an '89 325is, but it's over 1000miles away. The car transporter guy wants it driveable. It will start and run for a few seconds and then stops and won't restart or even fire for another hour or two. The seller said it sounds like a carby car that...

Hi guys. Found these on Ebay UK:

Out of interest, 4 - 5 day transport to Australia is 340gbp.
