Saw a few E30's in Minchinhampton on Sunday

Saw 4 e30s at the common love auto gathering in Minchinhampton yesterday. Couple of more doors, estate and cab. Recognise a couple from Cheltenham. Anyone on here?

Re: E30 in storage

If it comes down to it, where it is stored has enough space to drive it around a little should it need. My belt should good for a while as it was changed last year, but how often in time should it be changed?

The battery is disconnected but I might connect up and turn over the car every once in a while and check that it isn't starting deteriorate inside.

E30 in storage

Taken the motor off the road and stuck it in storage, under a cover and in a barn. Not sure how long but probably a few years down the line I plan on restoring the last few bits of rust and respray.

Re:

My mistake on the brown wire, there is a big heat shrink containing the diode splitting the wire into the two required. Fitted the system earlier, very straight forward especially with the info provided in the above comments. Successfully installed behind the glove box and wired into the turn signals.

Re:

Just been reading some of the forum posts on keyless entry. I can see references to either two blue wires or two brown. I have the unit with on the one brown wire, so looks like no indicator option unless I use two power diodes.

Re:

Thank you for all the info the CL. The RickClick system arrived today, so hopefully I will be able to look at fitting it this weekend, time permitting.

Presumable all the work will be in the foot well area, locating wires? i.e I don't need to trace any wires from all 4 doors?

Thanks

Cheers. I think a few YouTube vids might be in order, I am expecting it the be a bit fiddly. I have just been looking at the remote CL. Is this something you have fitted? Re:

Thanks for the info guys and the heads up on the remote locking kit. Didn't realise they were so cheap, will definitely get one of those. I will look at getting a rebuild kit and figuring out how to do the rebuild. Does the barrel have the relevant code on the side for the rebuild? Can a key cutter ...

Why do you want to change all five locks? I figured if I needed to change 1 lock then I would need to change all due to the wear in the key and for consistency. New lock set

Hi,

Is it possible to buy a brand new lock set these days or is it a case of trying to source a good set from a scrapper?

Thanks

Re: Gearshifter difference

It would see there something about the setup on this 316 that is very slightly different. I can only think that the linkage rod has a bend in it and the original shifter has been adjusted to compensate? Is this even a possibility?

Is the standard shifter 2 piece? If so is it possible the top section and bottom be loosened and then twisted?

Re: Gearshifter difference

Yeah I see, my mistake having looked back at the pic of the one I sold. It looks like the orientation of the groove and the linkage hole are correct and match. Just can't see what the difference would be, causing the gear knob to not locate, unless it wasn't fitted correctly.

So this is a pic of the shifter from the guys 316, also looks like the throw is quite short already.

Re: Gearshifter difference

Yeah for the gear knob alignment. I can't see why it wouldn't fit this model car or why there would be such I minor difference that is being claimed. I wonder if they are having trouble in trying to fit it.

Cheers

Re: Gearshifter difference

Thanks for the response. I think the 316 is an 87. If this 316 had the different shifter would there be a difference in the grove on the top of the shifter? I.e would the grove have the same orientation as the hole at the end? The reason I ask is I had a short shifter fitted to my car which I decide...

Door lock removal

One of my locks won't turn so I thought I would remove it and take a look. Also while its out I would get the barrel code for a new key. With the door card removed I found that access to it is really restricted. Will it require the window mechanism to be removed? http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18...

I use a DAS-6 pro with hex logic pads. For heavy stuff I use orange pads with Meguiars #105 heavy cut compound and lighter stuff with white pads and Meguiars #205 Ultra finishing polish. Then I have a black pad for even lighter stuff. Also have AutoGlym super resin polish. Finished off with a sealan...

Yeah I was planning on doing the indicators today, but didn't get round to it. What's best to use for removing the smoke effect, white spirit? Wing mirrors also need some attention.
