Had a similar problem, changed the temperature sender, now it works fine. It's the brown one if I remember correctly, I know the blue one is for the ECU.

No damage since I've owned the car. Can it not be attributed to worn top shock mounts or other worn suspension bushings?

Yes, it is the correct one. It's exactly the same as the one on the right side. Car is a 318i, standard suspension setup, with 195/50 15 inches. Other than that, all is standard...

I noticed about 6 months ago that my rear left shock absorber was leaking, so I decided to replace it. Once it was in, all was well. I noticed again at the weekend while I was doing some work on the brakes, that this shock absorber is now leaking as well. What causes shock absorbers to leak?

Yep! Got it sorted. Changed the brown temp sensor, all works fine now. Just a bit of a bugger to get in there to change it. Also changed thermostat, cause previous one had been bodged. Temp readings are fine now...

My M40 idles at around 750 - 800rpm - but never "pulsates". Rpms jump between 750 and 800 rpms but have never pulsated as bad as yours Smithy!

I have a similar problem on my 318i, makes a metallic clunking sound when riding on uneven road surfaces...don't know if this is related in anyway to the above problem?

So which diameter would be best suited for this application?

I don't mean to sound stupid, but I'm assuming microbore is some sort of pipe?

I have had the same problem on my 1990 318i. I have tensioned the belt, and flushed the PAS fluid and put new fluid in, and it makes almost like a moaning / groaning noise when turning at low speed and idle. The noise can sometimes be heard when driving...

No airlocks in the heater matrix perhaps?

I had this problem after my rocker cover gasket was replaced. The problem was that the nuts that hold the cover down weren't tightened properly, and oil slowly was seeping down the side of the head onto the exhaust manifold gasket. Tightened the nuts, worked a treat!

I have done a bit more listening, and have noticed the same vibration happens if you take your foot off the throttle while driving. When you hear the droning sound, you can feel vibration through the seats of the car. Any more ideas?

It seems to be coming from the rear of the car, it's almost like a droning sound. It happens when freewheeling in neutral and with the clutch in.

I have noticed an annoying vibration that happens when my car is free-wheeling, and the vibration varies with speed. Once you let the clutch out, and the wheels are being driven again, the vibration ceases. Any ideas?

I am replacing the fuel hose that feeds the fuel rail on the M40. Is it just standard fuel hose, and what diameter is it.

Is there any way one can repair a dodgy pump? I've heard you can strip the pump and clean it, but does this work?

I had the same problem...flushed the system and replaced the fluid, problem solved - no more groaning steering

Would Red Rubber grease suffice, or is silicon grease the best stuff to use?
I have had a look inside the door before, and everything seemed to be fine - just the window glass sticks when it gets to a certain point...then won't go any further unless forced.

I tried spraying WD40 in the window channels, and it worked for an hour or so, then went back to what it is now. I think I need to get hold of some silicon grease and give it a try. Any specific kind of silicon grease I should look out for?

Thanks for the help mate - I will take a look later this week. I know the fan has definitely jammed as I can barely turn it by hand! So it's a new fan and resistor and possibly thermo switch to get her nice and cool again! Luckily it's winter here - so it's not too hot at the mo!

One thing I wanted to ask- my car has all the aircon pipes and cables, will the aux fan still work as normal if the compressor is not connected? When I bought the car it never had the compressor in. I know the aux fan is not working, and the car has been running without a thermostat and non working ...

Does anyone know if there is a "generic" fan one can replace the aux fan with, as they are rather expensive! Also, if alternative fans are available, can one just mod a standard electric fan to fit; and will it work with the two speed temperature switch, ie: run at two different speeds?
