Re: 3.0 stroker help
Yes, thats right, but a pain to time up unless you want to mess around with a dial gauge, as it does not fit with the 'standard' timing tools. I luckily picked up a set of US M3 cams including matching trays from eBay over there, reputable seller, and got someone I know to bring them back for me. Dr...

Re: 3.0 stroker help
I've used the M50 block on both of my 3.0s, just as I didn't want to take everything out again if the head bolts pulled. On my first build they did, so that kind of put me off. M54 inlet cam does make some difference. Depends what you are using the car for... S52 manifolds are a good addition but mo...

Re: M52 ZF Gear box questions
I use ZF/E36, M20 flywheel and Sachs clutch for M20B25.
Used the release bearing that comes with the kit.
Kept the ZF/E36 slave cylinder + clutch fork.
M20 starter motor. All works fine.

Yeah, just going to see how it goes. I didn't cover many miles so the oil level did not even change - only does it at high RPM too and not when normally driving

Re: M5x Crankcase Breather
Good stuff sounds like its going well, I'm there in a few weeks - I was just about to reply in here this evening too... Unfortunately it was a shi*e day, way too many cars on and 15-20 car queues in the pit lane to get out. I did 54 miles on track.......waste of time really! Although, the puffs of s...

Re: M5x Crankcase Breather
To be honest I would never notice myself, its only after someone mentioned it to me and I saw it on the rear camera. I had the air box off and the boot was bone dry all day... probably being caused by sustained high RPM (wide open throttle all the way uphill to the limiter in 5th on Kemmel Straight)...

Re: M5x Crankcase Breather
So this got mapped back in May and has been great since, no issues and no smoke 'off throttle' at two track days although the same issue (albeit a lot less) has reared its head again this weekend at Spa. Coming off the throttle at high RPM gives out a small puff of blue/white smoke, sometimes when d...

Re: Single exhaust system.
I run a single system on an M5x, 2.5" all the way back with two small silencers. This is with M3 manifolds though, which Y into the single system. Can't really say how it affected power in my application, but it flows plenty enough for what I need.

Re: Anyone done a M52 3.0 Stroker and hit 250bhp on the dyno
I'm not sure with the M3 cams, I suppose the M54 inlet cam is halfway between the 328 and M3 items. I'm running standard 328 exhaust camshaft though. I had it done and mapped here as I've used the same rollers when it was a completely stock 328, then with the M50 inlet, then with M3 headers/exhaust/...

Re: Anyone done a M52 3.0 Stroker and hit 250bhp on the dyno
ECU? You're probably talking the best part of a grand to do it properly and have it mapped, including doing all the work yourself. I literally had it running and ready to map when I took it there. Granted i'm running all new sensors (water temp, air temp, crank sensor etc). Although, you have to rem...

I'm using Adaptronic ( http://www.adaptronic.com.au/ ) MAF removed and now running MAP, stock lambdas removed and running wideband only. Still using standard coils etc. Here are the graphs for anyone interested: This is with the VANOS running its stock on/off values, you can see the dip in power and...

Mapped today on standalone. Kept the VANOS engaged slightly longer (around 5000rpm) and it smoothed the top end of the curve.

Re: Anyone done a M52 3.0 Stroker and hit 250bhp on the dyno
You'd make miles more on 'proper cams' as said, but it kinda defeats the object of a cheap build with OEM only parts. Yes it did make 250hp/250lbft, and that's my thread. That was on the MS41.1 - it was never perfect and kept adapting/running rich. Although, I'm now on standalone management, and its...

Re: M5x Crankcase Breather
Interesting you say that Dan, as these issues came to light yesterday at Anglesey - consistently high RPM 3rd+4th all day. With that are you still running the drain to the sump, to the original fitting at the bottom of the dipstick? Where abouts did you end up drilling? Its due to be mapped on stand...

Re: M5x Crankcase Breather
I'm using 5w30. I had a look inside the intake elbow halfway through the last day and there was no excessive oil, near enough dry as you would expect. It never used fluids throughout the day and oil level remained about the same once cool on each occasion. The motor only has about 2000 miles on it, ...

M5x Crankcase Breather
Just wondering how people with the M5x swaps run these? To clarify this is the breather/vent on the front of the rocker cover. M52 usually runs to the PCV, then back to the inlet, with a drain to the sump, as you probably know. I've seen many people with conversions run this back to the inlet elbow ...

As Dan says the M52 PAS pump is different fitment - it does fit but you have to space it out by about 10-15mm forwards - this is obvious when you are looking at it. I just fitted an M3 PAS pump at the same time instead, direct fit. Alternator goes straight on

Re: Bit of help please
If your using the 328 ZF transmission (S5D310Z/S5D320Z), the M20 release bearing is fine, i.e the one that comes with the clutch kit. I went through all this after getting an M20 flywheel on the M52. 50% said use a taller bearing, 50% said it will work fine without. Im just running a standard Sachs ...

Sounds good for the future. Who here can source build and fit such an engine? Its easier for you to just fit an M52B28 and use it as is, plenty out there.... unless you have the time to build an engine and the associated things to go with it. Yes, its still OK Leave the torx bolt in place, so the position of the gear remains the same. Machine it down and some of the head comes off too, so the actual torx part goes quite shallow. Its a tad more than 5mm, I matched it to an M52 cam with verniers. http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag137/f...
