See, part of it is the price. I paid $2200 for the thing 18 months or so ago, which is about 900 GBP. A 325i Sport is $16,000-25,000 (6,400-10,000 GBP) and a reasonable E30 M3 starts at 40K (about 16,000 GBP). $2200 is almost nothing for an E30, and to get one that isn't falling apart would mean at ...

I know for a fact that the water is comming from the wiper motor area, since when I put a tarp over it, it stops filling with water in the rain. I also know that the firewall is rotten, because when I pull the insulation away in the engine bay, its full of rust behind the battery carrier. My questio...

My massive floor rust problem (help) (pics)
After getting tired of seeing daylight through the hole in the floor of my 85 318i, I ripped the interior, carpet, and noise deadening out of the car, and in a couple of weeks its going in to have nearly the entire floor replaced, and a full respray in Jet Black. As I took the carpet out, I saw thes...

Interestingly, a few of them seam to have fallen off the back of a truck recently, as a few builders here seam to have a number of them, including some brand new parts. Going price here is around $12K, but thats more along the lines of 5000GPB. Build it yourself, with your own specifications. There ...

To be completely different, there is always the little BMW M12/M13 with some nicely done pumbing and a decent sized turbo hanging off the thing. The other advantage is that it gives you the ability to completely run your mouth at anyone in the world that owns a Nissan Silvia, WRX, EVO, whatever. Own...

I've seen alot of people here do the Nissan SR20DET engine conversion here, with a great deal of success. Here in Australia I can get a mint SR20DET for less money that a second hand M20B23 due to the Japanese dumping ground effect. Don't know how you would feel about it though. Mind you, the cooles...

That's pretty wrong. A respray and some more tasteful wheels and it'd be OK, though you're knocking on the door of 7 grand by that time. Can get a real M3 cab for not much more. Still, for those who don't do LHD... I think the point is to have a nice looking, standout cab, not a fake M3. There are ...

We have a pair of E34 525i's running M20B25 engines (1989 manual, and 1990 auto). Its definately a better car in every way than the E30. Except it has 4 doors, and they never made a proper 6 series off it. It doesn't rust, which is nice compared to the hole ridden floor and boot of my E30. Interior ...

The 924 wasn't a bad little shopping trolley for my mother before her E34, but 95% of them are a disaster. The major problem is that at least here in Aus, the 924s were a Porsche that a young man with little money could afford. Thus the vast majority have been thrashed. Second problem is though the ...

There are a fair few around. A mob down in Victoria, Australia does E30 M3 and 2002 Turbo kits in a carbon fiber / kevlar mix that look extremely good, and bend under racing conditions. Theres a japanese mob that does some nice ones as well. Just googling, there is a British place that seams to do t...

I think the blue kit has the potential to look extremely good at the front with a slight change. One of the most distinctive features of the E30 front end is the lip bumper that is on all the stock cars, the M-tech 1s and 2s, and M3s. The lip overhangs the front spoiler slightly, and while on the M3...

The whole idea of using a cheap bit of cardboard with some plastic clips holding it on under the dash is just stupid in itself to be honest, but such is life. Especially when the clutch and brake have to slide into little slits in the bottom of it. Not that I'm questioning German engineering or anyt...

You can just use wood screws. Get them a tight fit with the slot that the plastic screws go into it good and solid. The footwell end of my panel got stuck behind the clutch and broke two of the three plastic screws, so mine are normal metal ones now. Its not that hard. Paint them black on the heads ...

I'm going to replace both earth straps definately. Do you think the negative terminal to valve cover direct would be ok though? It just seams to be the most direct route, and shouldn't be different to going the long way around. It would be a 3rd earth, to compliment the existing two, rather than a r...

Bad Earth Causing Starting Problems And Overfuel
I've just managed to get my M10 318i to work again after almost 6 months. What happened was it had badly flooded. To solve it, I pulled the fuel pump relay, and cranked it over heaps while jumpered to a 525i. After about 5 minutes of cranking, it had passed all of the fuel in it, and as soon as I pu...

When I changed my knob for a nice woodgrain one, I couldnt figure it out, and someone here told me to straddle the center console and pull over my shoulder to not knock myself out. Well, the steering lock works. Its simple, but still a rather effective method of keeping theives at bay (I mean the factory steering lock thing, where with no key in it, you turn the wheel and it locks up). One of my mates has a Mercedes 190E manual, and his method is pretty simple. He has a steel ...

There are more than one. Mine has two relays in it. One is a very tall relay, which is black. That is the fuel pump relay. The other relay is silver and very short. Porsche Fuchs black with polished center star and rim. Ever since I first saw them, they gave that "German muscle" look. Polished rim and deep black dish , with some more polished metal just for fun :) This particlar wheel is a bit grubby, but in good condition, I love them. http://www.terovirta.com...

I considered reading through the wiring diagram to find the ones I needed to kill, but I figured that when its not connected, it has the effect I wanted, so I used a multi-gated trigger switch, and cut all 7 or 8 wires going to the fuel pump relay holder, and wired the switch in series. The control ...
