Re: e39 Buying Guide
Also check for steering wobble between 50 and 60 mph and again between 75 an 80 mph. This can be caused by a variety of different factors including lower and upper front arm bushes, ball joints, poorly balanced wheels, cheap discs, flat spots in the tyres where it's been stood for over a day (althou...

Re: Buying advice E46 320D Sport Tourer - or what else?
I'm pretty certain they where in all M47TUD20 engines (post 2001 150bhp) which were fitted to facelift E46s.
The M57TUD30 where all affected (2002 onwards) as where the M57TUD24 (post 2004).
From what i can gather the issue was sorted out in 2005 when the valves themselves where made more robust.

Re: Buying advice E46 320D Sport Tourer - or what else?
Biggest problem with the facelift 320d was the dreaded swirl flaps in the inlet manifold which have a habit of breaking off and being sucked into a cylinder of its choice. The crankcase breather filter will need to be changed to the later vortex type as the old ones are known to disintegrate and get...

Facelifted saloons (august 2001 onwards) have six gears. Facelifted coupes (2003 onwards) had six gears. Pre-facelift cars have 5 gears unless they where orded with 6 gears as a cost option.

Re: Need help — buying a newer bmw!! E36/E46
I would personally avoid the e46 youve linked. The ealier models were all prone to the rear subframe mounts tearing off the chassis. BMW will only repair this if; A. It has a full BMW main dealer history. B It is less than 10 years old (which all the cars that where effected now are, as they resolve...

It's just like having your music on too loud, shouting your mouth off, honking your horn late at night etc. If you create a lot of noise then it's seen as public disturbance. Tbh if i was on nights and someone came past at 8 oclock every morning making a racket then id see my bum

TBH i think the Alpenis D3 is pointless.
You can get similar power from a 320d and a conservative remap. and theyre a fair bit cheaper.
Alpinas should be big engined, petrol powered and automatic IMO

e46 320d clunking
Hi folks, after a bit of advice, Im getting a clunking noise from my front passenger side wheel when pulling up to a stop. Ive managed to establish that it's not the control arm bush, its not either the inner or outer ball joint and its not the disc or pads. Im thought maybe its the anti-roll bar bu...

I'd buy that! AFAIK no nikasil after sept 98 either so cant really go wrong if it's nice and straight. Those things pull like an express train too, absolutely rapid for the size of them. The ride quality is second to none too as it has electronic damper control. If it's a pre-facelift they can still...

One of the things that is concerning me is the weight of the m57, the short engine weighs 168kg  Where did you get that info from?! That is more than an M30 with 2 extra cylinders! In an era where BMW are claiming lighter and lighter engines.. Here http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/enumber.html ...
