Auto vs Manual car DME
Is there a difference between a DME from an auto or manual car? RealOEM is showing that they are identical part numbers. Will a DME from an auto car work with a manual loom?

Re: Sensors required for start up
The engine is M60B40 from a 95 740. The harness is from a 94 automatic 530i. I have 2 different DMEs, one from an 93 740 and the other from the 94 530 and I've tried both. I'm using the M60B40 knock sensors. The engine cranks when I turn the key, so I think I bypassed the shifter select switch prope...

Sensors required for start up
I have been trying to get my M60 to fire for the first time and I'm hitting a road block. I'm not getting any spark.
I have a few sensors not connected. (02 sensors, static oil level and evap sensor) Are any of these required for start up?
Thanks

Re: Pin 15 wiring help
Thanks for the link, it is a lot of help. One more question. Does a dashed line on a wiring diagram indicate an optional wire, because on the 94 530 engine diagram 3 does show pin 15 to diagnosis RXD (whatever that means) however in a dashed connection. Oh well I will try and fire it up with out thi...

Re: Pin 15 wiring help
Yes there were "extra wires". I checked the diagrams on E38.org however it states pin 15 should be filled. I have a 530 loom and the diagrams state "M60 engine" which makes me think there is a difference between 540 and 530. If I knew what this "relay" was I could just trace the "extra wires" back t...

Pin 15 wiring help
I just finished adapting the X20 and C101 except for pin 15. On my x20 connector there is nothing pinned into port #15. According to the diagrams there should be a wire. What exactly is pin 15 used for, all the descriptions state "relay", but what relay? What on the motor does it control so I can ju...

Re: Some homework b4 i take on the V8 project. :)
I don't know very much about the 8 series as there are very few around here (certainly none in a junk yard). I think the 840 changed from M60 to M62 in 95 while the 740 didn't change until 97. I am using a M60 from a 95 740 no major differences between that a 540 motor. I rewired it with a harness f...

Re: Some homework b4 i take on the V8 project. :)
The installation of the engine into the car is all the same M60, M62 and S62 (needs to be a little lower due to intake). As for which engine to use this is all a matter choice, budget and electrical skill. I would recommend that you stay away from the M60B30 as it is the same amount of work but not ...

Alternator Help???
I'm in the process of rewiring my M60 (originally from a 1995 E38) with an engine harness from a 93 530i M60. I'm stuck with the alternator connector X6524 on the E38. X6524 bl - cluster (through pin 15) gn - fuse F22 open I want to keep the E38 alternator therefore I need to splice X6524 into the 5...

Re: Hydro boost brakes
Modify the linkage in what way? Are you suggesting remote mount and create a linkage?
I was reading Glenn's S62 build and his looks like its just bolted in the factory location. (I'm assuming the S62 is dimensionally the same as my M60)

Re: Hydro boost brakes
Hydro boost brakes are brakes that are hydraulically assisted. Instead of using engine vacuum in a traditional booster the system uses hydraulic preasure from a pump (in BMW's case the power steering pump). Hydro boost brakes
My local scrap yard just got a E28 750il and the hydro boost is looking very tempting. Is it possible o put the hydro boost master cylinder in the stock location? If so, how? When I look in my engine bay the LH valve cover over shadow's 1/3 of the master cylinder hole. I would need to bias the engin...

Re: M60, how difficult???
I did it all in a 2 car garage with the car up on jack stands. I kept the motor tilted up in the engine bay and slowly jacked the trans up on a regular floor jack. Obviously some trans bench pressing and creative use of wood blocks was required but it took about 1 hour to get at least 6 bolts tight ...

Re: M60, how difficult???
Why does everyone try to install the engine with the trans attached. I found that dropping the engine in and then attaching the trans from under the car was relatively easy.

Re: M60B30 Engine harness
Thanks for help.
Unfortunately there were very few E34 V8 manual cars sold here. I found that out when I was trying to find a trans. So I doubt I'll ever find a manual harness.

M60B30 Engine harness
I have a M60B40 that I'm swapping into my E30 however the M60B40 came out of 95 740 with EWS. I don't have the EWS module, keys etc. so I was hoping to swap the harness with one out of any earlier car. The donor harness would be from a 93 530 (auto). My questions is, are there any major differences ...
