get a bottom pulley from a scrapyard and weld a length of steel tube to it Fit this in place of your existing pulley after locking the flywheel and jam a wooden block between the bar and chassis rail then use a good 22mm socket and long bar to get enough leverage to undo it. When tightening up the n...

I've just taken the plugs out to do a compression test and no.s 1,2 and 3 had oil in the plug tube. compressions were 180psi on 1,3 and 4 ,and 250psi on no 2 .Is 250 very high or are the others quite low?.All Haynes manual says is minimum 10-...

Oh no it wasn't it was on June 12 2005.

I've just looked in my file and in April 2004 I got 126bhp at the wheels totally standard ,Russ got 128bhp in his iS.

Add the chip which claimed +23bhp = 149bhp

Why do you want to change to carbs? You will have to go to something like an Emerald ecu to control the ignition as the iS has not got a distributor I've got a standard engine with a chipped uk chip and got 149bhp at the wheels last time it went on the rollers .It seemed a high figure to me but it i...

to check the timing you can lock the crank at TDC by removing a small plastic plug which is located above the starter motor at the rear LH side of the block. If you push an 8mm drill bit into the hole and get someone to rotate the crank using a 22mm socket ,when TDC is reached the drill bit will loca...

Sorry to hear that ,really bad luck
I think the inlet manifolds are differant on an E36 but you will probably find it a lot cheaper to change the engine. When Russ had the timing chain on his iS jump a few teeth and bend the valves it cost Ԛ£1700 to mend

It might be a leak on your exhaust manifold gasket/flange. Is it more of a ticking or clicking?

I've replaced most of the numerous airpipes as they were found to be split and it would be much easier with the inlet manifold off. total cost is around Ԛ£35-40 ish. While the inlet manifold is split (don't forget a new gasket), remove the injectors and leave in thinners for a few hours to get r...

Yes it is the same one Don't forget to get new timing cover gaskets and a new crank bolt. Just done my timing chains and to get the crank bolt loose (244ftlbs) I bought a spare botom pulley from a breakers and welded a length of steel tube to it which rests on the chassis rail to prevent the engine ...

318is adjustable timing gear

Just about to change the timing chain and tensioner and sprockets and am wondering if anyone has altered the cam timings seeing that the sprockets have slotted holes in them. Will it make a noticable differance at the expense of less (or more ) torque in part of the rev range? Car is standard except...
