Re: Speedo and Odometer Dead

Jack up the rear right wheel, connect a resistance meter across the diff sensor, and turn the wheel. You should see the pulse as the wheel turns. If all is correct here, remove the instrument cluster, and connect the meter between pins 12 and 8 of the white plug. (brown/red and brown wires). Either...

worth also checking fuse 12, have you been playing of fitting a stereo recently? Re: Speedo and Odometer Dead

There is apparently a couple of solder joints on the back of the speedo that go dry also.. Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea where these joints would be. There are a few places on the back of the speedo and I am not very good with a soldering iron, so would only want to attempt the repair ...

Re: Speedo and Odometer Dead

Can't see anything to suggest it's not the usual internally broken wire to the diff sender. Hi All I have replaced the faulty wiring as far back up the harness as I can get to...a good meter or so... This did not fix the problem. I also tried replacing the diff speed sensor. This has also not fixed...

Speedo and Odometer Dead

Hi All Along with my overcooling problem, I recently discovered that my Speedo clock and my odometer have stopped working...the speedo is totally dead and the odometer is ticking at a rate of about 1KM for every 20 or so travelled! I doubt this would be the wiring because both have failed at the sam...

Great...thanks so much to you all :)

Had put my mind at ease. Just so use to my other cars racing and staying at centre, I guess I forgot that the E30 does not do this...

Keep well and happy motoring...

Re: OverCooling Problem

Thanks for the replies guys :) Firstly, the thermostat is an 80C or 176F one. This is the one that was given to me by BMW, suited to the climate in South Africa... The needle does wander a bit. If I am cruising, the temp drops onto or below the 1/4 mark. If I really push the car, the same thing happ...

It NEVER gets up to centre guage and usually stays just above the 1/4 mark when I have been driving for a while. Lately though, when crui...

Hi Pal318is

The fan still works on Speed 4 though with no problems...

I have an E34 that suffered the same problem and it was a Final Stage Resistor. Replaced that and I had all speeds again...I just dont know where or if the E30 has one?

Getting it from a dealer would be a good option as they are very cheap. I have noticed that with a lot of parts for my E30, the dealer is only a few more quid for a brand new one...which I would rather have, as I know the history winkeye
