Whining clutch

Hi all I've a 1990 318i with 116K on the clock, backed up by MOT certificates. I do about 4K a year. It's recently developed a high pitched whine that can be heard in the cabin when the clutch isn't depressed. As you depress the clutch the whine goes up in frequency until it disappears when fully de...

Re: What is this hose?

You have answered in 20 minutes what several professional mechanics have been unable to solve. So thanks! However it leads to other questions... Wiki says "For cars not fitted with the Carbon Canister, it is this blanking plug on the intake that is a major cause of air leaks." Now, i've had ongoing ...

Another indicator question

Afternoon So, I've read most of the threads on here about indicator problems and i've got some idea of what's going on, but could still do with a little guidance from you lot. '90 318i. Driver side indicators were intermittently flashing double speed. Put it down to a loose wire somewhere and in the...

Leaky diff

I had some work done on my 318i a bit ago and the mechanic, who I trust, said the differential was leaking and needed the drive shaft seals fixing. That was last November and he topped up the lubricant at the time. Another mechanic, a BMW specialist, has since said the diff was a bit sweaty but no c...

Stalling problem

Got a real problem with my 1990 318i stalling. If I let the revs drop too fast when coming to a stop, completely de-clutch when moving or blip the accelerator when in neutral, the revs often drop right down to 500, the engine shudders and then stalls. Happens when it's cold or hot. Otherwise, it idl...

Can anyone recommend a garage in South Manchester?

Re: Repair costs

I'm in south Manchester. Any offers would be greatly appreciated! I'm not that mechanically minded, but not a dunce either. That said, I'd much prefer someone who knows what they're doing rather than fouling up my own car.

Repair costs

My 318 needs to have some extensive repairs so before ringing around I thought i'd ask some people in the know. I need: Cam belt change Fixed leaky rear diff New exhaust gasket What would you expect to pay for each/all? Also have a frightening fuel leak. Assuming the worse case scenario, and I need ...

Re: Halp!

Yeah, that's what I thought. Had the inlet manifold fixed recently so thought it might be a gasket from that, left behind by the mechanic. Since I found the piece there have been exhaust fumes getting into the car. Looks like I need a trip to the garage.

Re: Boring 318i :)

That's a lovely looking car. Well done in picking it up! Any interior pics? I've not taken any interior pics myself, but these are the ones from Auto Trader where I picked it up from a couple of months ago. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r8/mickslh/bmw/7.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...

Why wouldn't we be  :D
Because it's not a 318is or an M tech superbastard, I thought it may be scoffed at. That and my lack of knowledge, such as thinking it might be a chromie :hammer:

Cheers everyone!

Aha. right. Why do I get the impression these chromies are inferior? Is it purely aesthetic? Cheers for the support :D

Boring 318i :)

Right then. This is my un-souped up, gubbins free, original 1990 318i Lux. I also believe it's what people round here call a 'chromie', which I think refers to the wheels (I'm a newby at all this so any help is appreciated!). I don't care about getting new wheels for it but i'm looking for some new ...
