Thanks.
But the heater and radio work so may not be the fuse?
Any other quick fix suggestions?

Electric aerial.
Hello all.
I have a problem with my electric aerial as it won't retract (1990 e30 saloon).
It's been working fine but now won't budge from it's maximum height.
Does it have it's own fuse?
Needs sorting before some kid bends it...
Thanks
Kit

MPG...
Hello.
Simple question - how accurate is the MPG needle on the dash?
Feel like it's telling me I'm doing better than i am even though it works like new!
I have a recently tuned low milage M40 316i auto that only gets around 24mpg (on a mostly urban cycle).
£64 for 250 miles!
Thanks
Kit

Best oil?
Hello.
I have a very standard 1990 316i (m40 i think?) auto with low miles.
What is the best oil and what sort?
Castrol? Mobil?
0w40? 10w40? 15w40?
Basic novice question I know but worth asking.
Thanks in advance...

Re: Airflow meter....
Thanks.
They also mention it does not need new oil as I've done very little mileage and it looks clean, it was last changed over 12 months ago.
Should I insist on a change? All the service items they say are fine.
Thanks

Airflow meter....
Hello.
I'm only getting 20-24mpg from my 1990 316i auto.
My garage say they can't tune the engine as the airflow meter won't adjust. At over £200 to change it is it worth it?
The car runs well just poor on fuel.
Thanks
Kit

Great runner, Poor MPG.
Hello.
My 50k 1990 316i auto is only getting around 19mpg urban and 25mpg motorway.
It had it's MOT today and the tester talked about how well it ran. It sounds great, idles perfectly, drives smoothly, but the MPG is poor.
What could it be?
Help!
Thanks
Kit

Hello. I have a very tidy 1990 316i auto with only 50k on the clock. Poor mpg (19 urban, 25 motorway) led me to try Super Unleaded. Half a tank in i feel like the car is performing better and the petrol is lasting longer. I'm I going mad or does it actually work?! Everything i've read said i should ...

Inspection Light.
hello.
When I turn on my e30 i get 3 green lights which go on and off as normal but just today the Inspection light stays on.
Is the fault with the light or does something actually need inspecting!
It's due a yearly service late next month...
Thanks
Kit

Re: Smoother changes for my Auto box.
Not sure about the filter?
I had a full service about 6 months ago and the box fluid was changed, would they have changed the filter then? Or is that another job?
I will check the fluid level when the engine is warm.
Thanks.

Hello. Is there anything I can do to improve my auto boxes change from 1st to 2nd. Unless I'm aggressive it's normally less smooth the all the others changes. Sometimes very jerky. Hello.
I think i have a small fuel leak and was wondering the price of the fuel hoses (like the ones under the manifold)...?
Apparently BMW do a kit as it's a common problem?
Thanks

I have a very low milage M40 316i auto and get about 25 MPG on a mixed cycle (half motorway a bit of A road and the rest round town). I got that term from the link below

Under the 'How To Tell if Your Differential is Worn' it mentions it as a common problem. All the symptoms sound like mine.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I get a whining noise from my diff from about 60mph to 70pmh, loudest at 65.
I've looked into it and it sounds like my output bearings are wearing out.

Fuel Tank Capacity?
Hello. After a recent post about MPG i've been trying to figure mine out. Can you tell me the capacity of a m40 316i auto? 62 L? And what mpg BMW think I should get from it? I'm not helped by a temperamental fuel gauge so do you know how much is left in the tank when the light comes on? Thanks Kit

Re: Change in max temp after Service.
Hello Brian
Is this a big problem? Does it effect how well the car performs (as it can't get to ideal temp)...?
Can you tell me how to check the part to confirm it's the wrong thermostat?
Thanks

Change in max temp after Service.
Hello. I was wondering why after a full service of my 316i auto (All fluids, all belts) and a tune up my max temp became lower then normal. It used to be perfectly centered when warm in the dial - but now runs a little colder. I'm guessing it's not a problem but I'd be nice to know why... Thanks Kit

Using 1-2-3 on my Auto box...
Hello. When i need to get away a little quicker I sometimes manually flick through 1-2-3 then to D on my auto box (1990 316i). Obviously the revs go higher than normal in each gear when doing this (never to the red line mind). Is this ok to do from time to time or does it have the potential to start...

I have a 1990 316i auto and I've found the higher the price of fuel gets the quicker my e30 uses it!
Does anyone think there is any merit in flicking the box to neutral and costing to lights etc rather then always leaving it 'D'...?
Thanks

Fuel gauge problem.
Hello there. My fuel gauge flips to full as soon as i turn on the car (1990 316i). After a little while (some times long) it settles down to nearish what's in the tank - the needle can flutter a little bit up or down, as if it can't make it's mind up. The fuel warning light works as normal as far as...
