I used Wonder Wheels (WW), and their brush is very good too. My wheels were quite dirty but nothign serious. Actually, I found WW even a bit strong ... and a friend advised me to dilute it ... but I was already using it in diluted form!). Great value, remember to soak before brushing. Nice pix Rare ...

ThatÔš's a very interesting thread indeed! It will give us interesting info on longevity, reliability, etc. I read on another site somewhere that a guy did 1 million km in the US in his 325i (thatÔš's 621,000 miles, if true). We could also look for the Ԛ… lowest mileage! My 1990 318is ha...

I fitted a K&N panel Ԛâ€Ëafree flowÔš' filter to my 318is after I read on Brendan PurcellÔš's famous site (and was impressed) that his 318is M42 engine was dynoed at 144 bhp (not to be confused with chipping, which he did afterwards). Note that he used a Jetex filter, which I guess is pret...

Alpina info pls
Hi, I have read most of the related threads but the info is not very clear Ԛ… so pls kindly help me on these: 1. Where can I buy 16Ԛâ€a Alpinas for my 318is? 2. Are the look-alikes any good? I do not mind replicas with Alpina decals, the real ones must cost a fortune, right? Difference...

Hi, I started this thread and I have come to a sort of conclusion on the pbs I mentioned but I need your feedback on point 2 below: 1. Loud knock in rear shock abs: was only the bushes, changed (Ԛ£20 only!). 2. Oil leak: my mechanic friend told me it is the head gasket but leak is very, very sm...

Thanks for all these brilliant responses guys. You have really educated me. Gears do not slip, they slip out of gears. Gears do not slip, they slip out of gears. IÔš'll copy that a 100 times, àla Bart Simpson. Around Ԛ£115 + vat + works seems reasonable, my baby is worth it (mechanic i...

1st gear slipping on 318is!
Hi I am sure you can help! When I am in heavy traffic (ie. when 1st gear is used a lot), my 318is slips in 1st gear (as if the handbrakes were on!) - this happens in 1st only. I can only give it a go, and then change to 2nd quickly to pull away, stressing the engine a bit. No pb at all when I drive ...

I had the same symptoms last week. Battery perfect, engine turns on ignition Ԛ… but does not fire. Incredibly, Green Flag man (or rather their local subcontractor in Surrey Ԛ—a Automania, a great guy) managed to spot that I had a minor oil leakage for months which had made the sensor...

Hi, I have a white 318is on which I am currently thinking of spending far too much soon! Does not come with badge on grill but - nice touch - you get the M colour (red/purple stripes) on the steering wheel and gear knob. Makes you feel you are driving a junior M3 ... (OK OK maybe not always) I also ...

Alec 318is, thanks. That is the whole point. I never changed the brake pads!!! Let alone the sensor ... Two yrs ago I bought my 318is and the red brake warning light came on whenever I braked - and only when I braked. I thought I had to change the pads: my mechanic (not a BM specialist) told me pads...

Heh heh Ԛ… check again, maybe your 325i is in fact a 325d. I do 40-miles each way everyday (75% M1 @ 60-70mph and 25% A406 Ԛ—a early morning or late evening, ie. no traffic jams). My car is a 318is and I always get 39-40mpg Ԛ—a unless stuck in traffic. Not bad at all! I was t...

Hi Rusty 323, I am no BMW fan as a brand but you have to give the devils their due! I am fantasising on the pre-Bangle 7-series right now, great slim shape for a limousine. In the meantime, I am lucky enough to have the junior one, the E30. And the best, missing from your list: the 318is. I missed t...

suspension noise; brake indicator always on
Hi all Please help new member with 3 minor problems! 1. I get a rather loud and unpleasant knock at the rear (right side only) when I go through potholes, etc. The car just passed the MOT. My trusted mechanic tells me nothing is wrong but he did not have time to check more than what is required by t...
