Not a new member but been so long I might as well be

Hey everyone! Have been a member for a looooong time and used to be very active but my life took some unexpected twists and turns  Used to be an Englishman living in Dublin with an E30 more door, have been living back in my hometown of Bournemouth for over 8 years now and haven't owned a decent...

Re: Are e30's shite?

I seem to remember someone with the exact same avatar pic starting a thread almost exactly the same as this a few months ago and then ending up banned? Is it the same guy who's just been unbanned/re-accounted or is the avatar thing a coincidence and i'm adding 2 + 2 and getting twelvtysix?

flywheel lightening - how much to be taken off?

Hey guys,

just looking to find out how much needs to be taken off the m20 flywheel when getting it lightened?

How much is the flywheel standard and how light does it need to be after?

Thanks

Re: overheating problem

Is it only when stationary or is it while you're driving at ~50mph as well?

If when stationary only, probably your viscous fan clutch needs replacing. If it's while you're driving at speed, it's prob an issue with your coolant system somewhere - waterpump, thermostat, leaky hose?

From the things i did to mine after getting it, my favourites were the z3 shortshifter & bilstein b4s + eiback springs.

e39 523i - info/anything to look out for?

May be going to look at a 1996 e39 523i this week, just wondering if there are any common faults/issues to look out for, or if anyone can give me any further information on them? Comfy? Nice driving "feel"? Approximate MPG? etc etc. If I'm not mistaken it's similar to an m52 in that it has a restric...

Re: Easiest way to remove coupling from spline?

The EASIEST and most NON_DESTRUCTIVE way to remove a steering linkage is to remove the RH rack mounting bolt and slacken the LH, swing the rack forward and the linkage will drop out with no hammers/pry bars/chisels/scaff bars or blow torches  This is what we did and while the bottom came off ...

Aaah, so the bolt needs to come out altogether?
It's been loosened a fair bit and we wedged a screwdriver into the split to open it out a bit more, but as i said it still wouldn't budge.

Cheers guys

Easiest way to remove coupling from spline?

Just wondering what people find to be the easiest way to remove the steering coupling from the shaft/spline on the steering column? Managed to get the bottom end detached from the rack handy enough but the top end is barely shifting off the spline. Is it just a matter of brute force? Had a crowbar t...
