Re: Detachable steering wheel kit
Yeah but to be fair, I am a bit more lardy than you fella ;) Plus I could save that weight by missing a meal.... For extra info if anyone hasn't seen my build, I have two large door bars plus an eared seat. Getting out in the mandatory escape time or just because I don't want to sit in a potential ...

Would it make a huge difference if i 'slightly' squashed the downpipe to allow a little more clearance? I do only mean a little I did this as an emergency fix at Cadwell when we first identified the problem: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8497/8352960653_9b0bc61b25.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/...

Re:
Stonks - re the steering linkage UJs, what engine mounts are you running? Mine was clear when stationary (and indeed on most corners), but when driving hard, it caught on left-handers as the engine moves across unless you have uprated/solid mounts.

Not sure what you mean by "toe plates"? I presume it's the adjusters with the eccentric slots? I'll check but it's possibly the crappy phone-cam.

I'm about to fit a new adjustable beam and "new" trailing arms after having a slight "wheel-to-barrier" incident. Also going for different bushes (?) which mount the beam to allow lowering w/o the other issues.

Does it matter which E46 rack is used? I had one of these fitted. I thought it was from a Compact, but the link says not. However, it is a great mod (tho does cause problems with the downpipe which I need to get sorted. http://www.midlandbm.com/catalog/bmw-e46-3-series-power-steering-rack-p-1904.html

Sorry I missed you Andrew. I had problems with a bent trailing arm which meant I didn't want to do too many laps at the Ring. We used my lad's Hondalise at the Ring until an electrical fault caused us to lose some time in the morning, then he went and blew the clutch in the afternoon :( Took the E30...

Re: Spacers & Wheel Bolts
Lucky. My brother has a similar story with his E36 (although not on a race track and certainly not to the same degree as you experienced). He solved the problem with 10mm spacers and TMS's E36 front hub extenders. Can I suggest that you never run spacers unless they are hubcentric spacers. Also, on...

I'm considerably older than my E30 which came off the line in 1982. In fact I'm more than twice as old as the old girldaimlerman wrote:Bloody youngsters!

Re: Classic insurance on a 325?
1982 316 with a 325 engine. £214 pa, limited to 5000 miles (which I'm 35 miles short of doing with 10 weeks to go - need to increase it/renew). However, that is fully declared: race suspension, fully stripped, caged, LSD etc etc. I guess being as old as I am helps a little (well over 2x the age of t...

Somehow, I also had a hole that I didn't need. Despite having the guard on almost since it was built, I found a tiny crack in the front of the sump  I've had it ally-welded and all seems OK now, but an added advanatge of a sump guard is that you can check how much is being lost. Thankfully, all...

Mine's a prefacelift so had to drill an additional hole in the front. Wasn't a big deal to be honest. Unfortunately, I do have to remove the guard to change oil as it is pretty close to the sump plug. I guess I could try one of those plugs which have a tap included and see if it's possible to attach...

Re: Sump guard
I run one of RPM's steel guards on my track 325i. It has 16 x 1" holes in it (approx size). Temps are never above 85deg C on track and a lot lower on the road. Not sure what they'd be if it didn't have the holes in it.

I have a similar problem with my 325i. It has an Ashley system and when we got it (new) 3 years ago, it never caused a problem. Like you, drive-by isn't a problem (you can hardly hear it!) but at static tests, it seems to resonate a lot. This may be to do with a rigid mount (ooh, er, missus!) to the...

How much petrol was in the car when weighed? Take away excess petrol weight and passenger seat, allow for weight loss that a fibreglass bonnet and race battery instead of standard would give, and you are coming in under 1000kg. It was about 1/3 full IIRC. TBH, it's only used for trackdays and almos...
