Re: Fuel and temp gauges not working

Have you tested the temperature gauge, as described on the wiki? Also, if you lift up the back seat to gain access to the fuel pump (it's under a panel which can be unscrewed) you should find the plug for the fuel sender. Unplug it and bridge the connections with a paperclip. These two tests will i...

Re: Fuel and temp gauges not working

When you say "fuel gauge doesn't work" what exactly does it show? Zero, middle, full or waving around all over the place? It's stuck on empty; it never moves. This is also true for the fule gauge in the other cluster. As a possible clue, the temp gauge needle 'jumps' to the edge of the blue mark wh...

Re: Fuel and temp gauges not working

Battery failure doesn't usually affect the fuel gauge! Could it be if a 62 litre sender has been fitted to a 55 litre tank? Pre-facelift chromies all have the smaller tank, don't they? I've tried the spare binnacle I was given with the car (which came from a pre-facelift chromie), and the same two g...

I take it it had an extra outlet. Water pumps for early E30s have an extra outlet for the expansion tank, as this is mounted as on an E21.

Fuel and temp gauges not working

I have an A-reg E30 323i built Nov '83. The temperature and fuel gauges do not work (but the low fuel light does); before I start faffing around with fuel tank senders and temp sensors, I think the binnacle is at fault. Am I right in assuming that the secondary board (the one with the batteries on i...

MOT stations are a bit like barbers, if you get a good one you'll keep going back. My mate has an MOT station (hear me out), and does all of my cars, BUT if he thought I was trying to get a shed passed he'd say so. And while testers should respect that, regardless of condition, they're testing someo...

Black Ellipsoids

Were these an aftermarket item? Do they make a great difference to the lighting, or is it all just for styling?

Re: My Weekend In Pictures..!

This one's a bit of a cheat, it was a 320 that had a 323i engine and running gear put in. Other than a small amount of rust on the sills and bottom of the rear arches, it's 'cherry'. Spent over three hours checking it when I bought it...

Sorry, they've gone, the local E30 'locusts' got wind of it and the car got stripped like a joint of beef in a piranha pond.

Using logic and all the research I've done I think you're right, as I was told that the M50 block is basically the same as an M20 block.
