What's the going rate for . . .
1) Running 2.5l engine & gearbox 2) Disc brake rear beam 3) 51mm front struts If the sum of what I might get for those is likely to be more than i'd get for this; http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/RustyVonThrash/temporary_zps3c2f3f3f.jpg Then i'll probably break it. Is it going to be worth th...

Knackered shocks . . . .
. . . . I think. Took the front struts off to swop the springs, and once the springs were off, the rod was slowly sucked back into the cylinder to about the halfway point. This doesn't seem right to me. Any ideas?

Spring interchangability.
Not sure if "interchangability" is actually a word, and not sure if the lowering springs i kept off my old 2 door 320 will be right for my current 4 door 325. Are all 6 pot springs swappable?
Thankyouplease.

I should have posted this 6 months ago when Matt sorted me with a full cars worth of lemforder bushes and balljoints for my E30. So refreshing to talk to someone who knows what they're doing, called be back to let me know what was available in the tight timescale is was working to, and discounted th...

As in, the end of the cable that attaches to the brake shoes, should be poked through the backplate towards the centre of the car? . . . . 'cos that's not what im doing . . . .Ranchero wrote: It needs to be poked through the other way.

The cables have dissapeared down the guide tubes, and i've had both feet braced against the hub while i tug on the wheel end of the cable :? Fearing the worst i've just rung the dealers for a price on cables. The man says the inner and outer come as one, "you can't seperate them". That would make se...

what have i done wrong?
Im trying to get the handbrake cables off my rear disc'd E30. Took the nuts off the lever ends of the cables, got the discs, shoes and other gubbins off, even had the foresight to spray some wd40 down the tubes from the lever end. They both pulled out about 10" then stopped. Sort of ground to a halt...

Anyone use their E30 for towing?
Are they up to it? I've pulled a trailer which weighed 470kg alone with most of a 3 foot high brick chimney in it, my 325 seemed to cope ok, still braked alright etc. Im hoping to pull a caravan chassis trailer (300kgs?) with a stripped out and lightened mk1 fiesta on it (700kg?). . . . So, i suppos...

I have done subframe bushes before, it is a pig of a job, and i totally agree with not wanting to do it again too soon. BUT, the new vibring bushes are already fitted to another spare beam. I could just swap the beam, taking half the time of removing old and then fitting new lemforders to the beam t...

Rear bushes.
Due to many years of running e30s into the ground, buying bits and never fitting them, i have some bushes i had planned to use when my 325i fails it's forthcoming mot. I understand Lemforder is a quality brand, what do people think of Vibring, Corteco, and (what i think says) Topren?

Re:
A reduction from 195/65 to 195/50 isn't a reduction of 15mm. The 65 and 50 represent a percentage of the width (195), not a millimeter value. 65% of 195 is 127mm 50% of 195 is 97mm Then remember that's just the sidewall between the rim and the tread, so that's TWO sidewalls to affect the entire dia...

It's gotta be the 14" wheels for various reasons - no money for anything else being the main one. I gettit that smaller overall rolling radius means better acceleration, less top end. But would a 15mm reduction in profile really be noticable? Saying that would it even be visually noticable? I plan t...

tyre size?
Got a set of 14" bbs cross spoke alloys i've just refurbed, so now i need tyres. Currently running 195/65 on 14" bottle tops. Not to keen on the balloon like appearance of these, so was thinking 195/50 possibly?? Not sure how much his would affect gearing/speedometer though? . . . .

Clutch slave cylinder replacement.
. . . is it easy to do? Pretty sure the reason i have no clutch is a leaking slave cylinder, (pool of fluid under car, biting point moved when you pressed the clutch down for anything more than 5 seconds before it went completely). I have one removed from a pre-facelift 320i, only a few months old -...

I have some experience of this. . . . I got kenwood 7"x10"s to fit in my 1984 320i without cutting at all, didn't need spacers to lift the speakers or anything. It was a tight fit, but the magnets were not touching anything when i'd finished. I removed the speakers when the car was scrapped, ...

Another cutting out question.
My friends 1988 316i has had a cutting out problem for a while now. Normally happens within 10 mins of starting the engine, seems to be more common when the car is on a slope, and won't start for 5 mins afterwards. I have noticed the rev counter needle drops to zero immeadiately when it does cut out...
