Not the 5G stuff, but it's quite common for radio and TV masts to interfere.
We have a London port authority tower near me and in the past it was known to completely debilitate a 7 series on occasion. Had to be recovered away before it would unlock.

Re: Battery drain
Certainly would draw more current, but still 18ma is not a huge amount. Have you ever checked the battery voltage when it wont start? Just wondering if you may have a weak battery/charging system and a slightly dodgy earth or starter thats asking more than normal. Nothing like a selection of problem...

Re: Battery drain
Your battery is somehwere in the region of 70Ah (it'll probably say on the top) So a dreain of 18mAh would take a very long time to flatten it, and still several weeks to pull it down to a low enough level to fail to start the car. Aftermarket alarms do have a reputation of draining things faster th...

Re: Should I sell my BTB3??
Thanks Steve, it's nice to be back. I've had a browse every couple of years to see how things are getting on. The old 320i touring was laid up out of the weather for about 4 years most recently. Stuck a battery on it and it fired up after about 20 seconds of cranking. They just don't make them like ...

Evening chaps. I've been away for a few years, The E30's have all gathered a lot of dust, and my couple of bootfulls of parts are now slowly going on eBay as I realise that life is never going to be simple enough to chill out in the garage restoring old cars. So, the big question that keeps rattling...

Take off all the black plastic on the front of the car, the scuttle covers, door rubbing strips. Rub them over with a scotch pad, then re-paint in satin black.
Lose the two badges on the front grill.
Paint the wing mirrors in body colour.
You'll barely recognise it.

Re: Evaluating air-con issues
Wont be able to pick up gas from BOC without a yearly rental contract. Wont be able to pick up gas from HRP without an F Gas cert. In the long run you are probably better of converting the system to R134a. RS24 is expensive and not many people hold it. And if you do have a leak and just drop in a ch...

Maybe me being simple but if this aerial wire is just a 12v feed to the motor, why not connect it to the switched live for the head unit?
This way, when you start the car, the aerial goes up and when you get out it goes down, No worries.

Re: E46 E36 racks
If going for a E46 rack you want the 330i clubsport one. This gives 3 turns lock to lock and a nicely weighted feel. Bolts up quite easy with some spacers on the subframe. Usually needs a cooler added in the PAS pipe to stop the fluid boiling. Main advantage is that an E46 one will be newer than an ...

Leave the power as is for the first tack. It wont have the best penetration but it will sit nice and proud. - Do one good tack in all four corners to keep the shape. Now turn the power up one notch, and put a tack next to the first. This time you should be able to lay a blob that leans against the f...

Re: rear end rebuild
You may well get lucky and the beam will drop down, but they usually put up quite a fight. The 'studs' that drop down have a round head with a short splined section which holds them into bodywork. If you lift the seat base and search for a roughly 20mm circle in the paint above the beam mount. This ...

Good point but i have found a small lip on the inside before. Might have just been from the casting but it was just enough to stop the disc slipping off.

Pull the manifold away from the head with some bits of wood or somethingso that only one or two threads are sticking through then get a nut on each one before starting to wind them all on and bring the manifold up tight to the head.
Good luck.

Re: Sound system - weird symptoms
You need to confirm that the wires you are using/working with are the ones you think they are? One at a time, Twist the ends together at the speaker end and then check for the continuity on pairs untill you find that one. Do this for all speakers and you'll be half way there. Polarity doesn't matter...

Pull off the horn button in the centre of the steering wheel and place a small ball of 'blu-tak' on the end of the steering column. Are you changing the discs? If they are well worn chances are a good lip has built up on the inside of the inner drums. As above, look carefully through a stud hole at around about 12 o'clock and you will see a 'star wheel' that you can push the top or bottom of to spread the tops of the shoes. You ...
