Re: E21 320i - Needs work but tempted...
I had a carb'd 320 auto and it was a very thisty and noisy car. Motorway speeds are horrendous as it's woefully undergeared. Unless you're going to use it to pootle to the shops on a weekend, get rid of the lump. E21's are superb, but an M20B25 is certainly the way to go along with very decent suspe...

Re: E34 535i 5 Speed
These are very solid cars. Given the climate you're in, it shouldn't be suffering from rust. Nevertheless, check the floor properly for any signs of rust or repair. Jacking points and inner sills are the principle weakpoints along with the fuel filler neck. The engine is very solid. They can get a l...

Very nice.
Regarding the tyres - stick with the Toyo's. They're far more capable.

260 is the figure for the M30 based Alpina engines found in the M3 shelled B6.

You'll find there's either rust in the scuttle panel (remove the grille under the wiper arm and have a good nosey) of there's rust in the bulkhead/wheelarch area. I had exactly the same in my 325. I found a hole about the size of a 50p which meant I could check my off side front tyre tread depth wit...

Re: Ideal sized wheels for handling
The likes of suspension on M Power and Alpina cars are completely revised compared to the standard E30 in order to accomodate larger wheels. Just slapping some on your car doesn't mean you will instantly get the same benefits. There's a lot of synergy amongst the set-up of the car as a whole. Loweri...

Good old Kamei. They were responsible for some hideous modifications back in the day. Still, they don't actually look too bad in that picture.
On an E21 though, that's a different kettle of fish.

Re: Best suspension set up for road use...?
Apprently the best is Bilstein shocks B8 - H&R/Eibach springs 35mm - H&R/Eibach anti-roll bars I have this same set-up on mine - save for the ARB's. It's great for fast road use and relatively compliant given the drop. A decent set of ARB's and poly bushes will toughen everything else up a treat.

Re: wheels?
The Tec System II wheels from the E34 M5 are generally referred to as turbines due to the type of insert you can fit to them instead of the usual 'throwing star' covers.DanThe wrote:I thought they were called turbines, or is that something else?

Re: Mtech II Steering Wheel
The 385 was made for the e34 5 series although it does fit an e30 and imo makes it feel like your driving a bus. Really? What difference can 15mm make :? Try one and find out. It's a more 'natural' size in relation to the rest of the car. I have a 370mm Tech II in my 325 but I'd prefer a ~350mm Mom...

325 loon stripped kerb weights
I'm stripping my car down as it will be used as a daily driver and for the track. I'm curious as to what level you can get to with such a car and what it takes to get there. I've seen some - albeit two doors - that have gotten down to around the 1000kg mark but I'm not too sure what level of strippi...

Walking home from school in 1988 got me into E30's and BMW's as a whole. I used to walk down a busy main road on my way to and from school and on the way back one summers day (probably has something to do with feeling good at the time) I heard a bellow behind me. Turns out it was a new, two door 325...

Check around and under the battery trays - there's one up front and in the rear on the o/s. There's also some grommets in the bulkhead that can let water into both footwells, The best way to check these is to get the carpet peeled back and look for traces of residue down the firewall. This ends up c...

Short shift kits
I'm looking to improve the gearchange in my 25 so an SSK is the way to go.
I know the Z3 shifter is a popular upgrade on E36's, but does the same apply to the E30 or are there any other OEM items that can be used?
I don't mind aftermarket stuff, I'm just gauging opinion. What do you guys use?

Hi all I've just picked up a 1988 325iSE that I will shortly be tearing to pieces for track use. I'm currently working through what will be moved/removed and I'm a bit stuck with a button. I've had one E30 previous to this but it didn't have it and with no handbook, I'm at a loss to find out what it...
