Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Right then Brian, I have had the distributor cap off, and although the contacts are worn, i am not sure whether they are totally spent or not? Below is a picture http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z332/tom2022/DSCF0213.jpg What do you think? I checked the rotor arm resistance and that seemed to be ...

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Brian, the car had a little stutter earlier, and i looked at the rev counter, it doesn't do anything out of the ordinary, no dropping to 0. Where shall i go from here?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Ok thank you Brian. I am still waiting for the car to stutter significantly for me to get a look at the rev counter. I checked the coil a few days ago, and did not get the values recommended by the bentley manual. Could the coil be the source of a problem like this?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Brian, i keep forgetting to look at the rev counter whenever the car stutters, i am always far too busy panicking and hoping that the car doesn't completely pack up again. Once i manage to remember to watch the rev counter, could you tell me what this will indicate please?

Nope, no marking at all on the cables, definitely not melting, and definitely not getting caught on a pully. This has really got me stumped

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Well i changed the CPS and the ECU for good measure, and all was well for a couple of days, but its just started stuttering again!
Does anyone have any idea why my car seems to be eating CPS?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
And i just went and checked, once the car stops running, the fuel pump does not run, so the plugs don't get that wet, but this is probably because there is no spark, therefore the pump isn't pumping ?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Is there something i might be doing to the sensors to kill them then Brian, as i have replaced this sensor twice now? Could it be something in the ecu damaging the sensor?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Do you think that it could possibly be a duff sensor then? As the varying resistance across the pins confuses me a lot. As i said, starts off about 800 ohms, then after about 10 mins of running, the car packs up, and the meter across the two pins reads an open circuit. then if you leave it for a few...

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Yeah, it is definitely getting fuel. It is like the sensor is overloaded and will only work for a certain amount of time, is it possible that i have damaged the sensor by continuity checking it accidently? Or that some wires are shorting at putting a current through the sensor and damaging it?

Re: M20b20 cutting out at traffic lights
Is the TPS fitted correctly. I had this problem when i bought my car, the joker who had previously owned it had fitted a new TPS, but he had fitted it wrong, so the car would hunt around at idle then stall.

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Sorry Brian,i am not sure, i haven't seen what the rev counter does as it was only a few seconds of splutter. The problem has really developed now though, to the point where i don't want to drive the car. The car seems to start when its been left for a few hours, but given a few minutes run, if you ...

And now it has just started it up again. Does anyone have any idea what this could be ? Edit again I have just chec...

If moisture got into it how long would it take to kill it? There have been some pretty bad floods up here in the lake district and the old girl has been ploughing through, thought they hadn't caused any damage though

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Hi Brian, Thanks for the reply. Not sure what the rev counter was up to, but it just completely conked out, so i have the checked the crank sensor again, as i have only just replaced it, and found it to be faulty, again! Is there a reason why my car is eating crank sensors ?

Re: 320 has developed a stutter
Cheers for the quick reply jim. I have checked the hoses yeah, they are all intact and there are no obvious leaks. The stutter is quite violent like the ignition system is cutting in and out. Could it be a dodgey relay or something like that ?

320 has developed a stutter
Evening all. My cars developed a problem where it stutters intermittently, very odd and i cant think what is wrong with it. As far as i know the fuel pump is a good one, at least its not whining like the one i replaced. I have recently replaced the crank position sensor, as that just packed up. The ...

Hi there Brian, thanks for your rapid response! No spark and no fuelling, no idea!
Hi there. Last night the car packed up on the way back home from work. Its a 1991 320. I have been experiencing a fault with it where it dies for a split second then comes back to life for a fair while now, but was lazy and didn't investigate it. But now it is just plain dead. Turns over, but there ...

I'm south west of you in place called millom. And the e30 is a 320, might be slightly inferior but I love it!
