Re: Rounded brake line nut...

Oh yeah, if you have ABS then don't let air get into the pump, this is not a good thing.

Double check with someone who know for sure on this as I don't really deal with ABS much, E30s are modern cars to me..

Re: Rounded brake line nut...

I'm going through the same sort of thing with a, spit, Peugeot 206 (not mine) The nut won't be of any use if it has rounded. So cut the pipe right close to the nut and get the old nut out with a socket or something more brutal.. If you can't budge it then worst case scenario is you'll need a new fle...

Re: How do I tell a genuine Hartge tuned car?

I'll swing by and see the chap next week, he's just down the road from my work.

I'm not getting my hopes up yet, but secretly I'd love for it to be something special. I'll do some digging, get some pictures and get back to you all soon.

Thanks again for all the help.

Re: How do I tell a genuine Hartge tuned car?

Best bet, if you're serious, check as much as you can - it's worth taking the ECU out.. Pics? Yep I think your right, If money's being asked for the proof is needed. I've read up on Alpinas a fair bit but always had a feeling Hartge were a bit more random in their way of doing things. Hence the que...

Re: How do I tell a genuine Hartge tuned car?

It's rhd, I'll get the reg next week and tap them up. Usually car makers have little clue of what they've built and what parts they fitted but you'd expect a small tuner/manufacturer to keep at least some records.. I've thought of learning German several times, solely for car parts... and weissbier....

I'd be quite happy with a normal 325 but certainly don't want to pay a premium for something it isn't.

How do I tell a genuine Hartge tuned car?

After a year with no E30 I'm really itching to get another. I've seen an '88 325i which the owner has told me has a Hartge tuned engine. I haven't had a proper viewing yet so thought I'd try to get some info first. So far I've seen a nice six branch manifold and a Hartge badge on the boot. It also s...

Wheel bolts for alloys and steelies

Can I use the same bolts which are currently holding a set of standard steelies on my 318i for a set of bottletop or BMW 15" BBS alloys?

Re: Idle problem on 318i

It's an m40. I set the idle with the plastic throttle cable adjuster at the throttle body end.
I suppose saying that I'd adjusted the idle was a little misleading.

I've turned it down a bit today and I'll see how it goes.

Idle problem on 318i

My '88 318i often idles fast. 1200, 1500 or sometimes even the 800 I've set it to. It never wanders, it's always rock steady, just usually at the wrong speed.

I've checked the throttle cable and its adjuster, all the vacuum pipes seem good. Does anyone have any ideas?

Rattly m40

My 318i has starting tapping very loudly at the top end, but only intermittently. It's been ticking for a while but has got really bad now. I'm guessing it's a tappet problem?

I just want to quieten it down for a while, the test is due in July and it's probably not passing..

Thank you. I did think the tech badges were added later (as most of them seem to be) but one badge is broken and I can see they have pins running through into the back of the seats.

What are these seats from?

I took these out of a 4 door '89 316i I broke, I'm assuming they weren't original. Can someone tell me anything about them please?

Re: Radiator water

It has probably been run without antifreeze at some point. The reason it's supposed to be used all year is that it contain rust inhibitors to help stop corrosion. If its not overheating or losing water you're probably ok. I got rid of the rusty colour on a Renault of mine by disconnecting the coolan...

E36 rack into an E30 with an M40?

I bought an e36 rack to put on my 89' 316i but the input shaft is on the exhaust manifold. Not just close but touching, I've tried the front and back holes on the subframe brackets and putting spacers above and below the rack but can barely get enough clerance for a rizla! I've been through some thr...

Re: 318i M10 Speedo not working....

The speedo in my 316i is temperamental, I'm pretty sure its the connector onto the back of the instruments as a sharp slap on the dashboard brings it back to life. I'm just too lazy to pull it all apart to have a look yet.

I need more power

Or rather, I need less noise. The 1600 m40 in my car is tapping like crazy from the top end despite a flush and change to decent oil, and it smokes alot. I think the only decent thing to do is pull the engine out and give it a good overhaul, but.. having an empty engine bay and not putting a bigger ...

Chevy LS series all the way. Cheap, very torquey, light(ish), designed for rwd and no turbo to go wrong. If your'e going to cut bodywork about then it might as well be to fit something proper rather than a chocalate pistoned japanese taxi motor. They do sound damn good though.. but not as good as a ...

Steering racks

I've broken my steering rack by running into a rock hidden in the snow. Serves me right for going snowboarding instead of working I guess. Anyway I need a new rack, my car's 89/g and the rack has an alloy body with round steering arms, I've been told ths is the only type that will fit, is this true?...
