Touring Sold and Gone in less than 24 Hours.
Thanks to SPADGE. Decent reliable trader, no messing about, I delivered car, he gave me the money and the train ticket home.
Top bloke, definately deal with him again if I get another E30.

Re: Full respray
I'm halfway through painting my E30, should be done for £60 ;) Mind you, the roller approach isn't for everyone :D I'm thinking of going down the roller route aswell. How have you got on with it ? Well, I had quite a lot of rust to contend with first so the prep work has taken forever. Actually app...

Anyone made a Sump Guard ?
I'm thinking of making a sump guard but was wondering if I can buy one cheaper secondhand, than the cost of buying the metal.

Changed pipe for correct diameter, still got the problem. Can only conclude that it must be a buggered rack but can't get my head around how a rack can go wrong and give these symptoms !! Rack now on the garage floor ready to be replaced.

It's a quicker rack, less turns lock to lock, makes the car more managable to drive.TheHeap wrote:why do people put the e36 rack 0n the e30 anyway?

Re:
If its the return pipe the diameter shouldn't make a difference as it will just cause the oil to flow faster through the narrow part. Have you checked the tracking ? When the wheels are straight is the rack centred ? (equal amounts of thread showing on each tie rod) Does the steering turn freely wi...

Re:
Latest update, checked pipes are on correctly, which they are, removed pump and split it, checked relief valve and it was fine, no jamming or dirt in the cylinder. Spoke to mate, who suggested a few things one of which was the pipe bore size. The return pipe I had made was too small to fit the reser...

E36 Rack Conversion Question
Quick question, to try and help solve my steering problem. I need to double check the conections on the rack are connected up the correct way, as I've had some pipes made up for the conversion.
So which is the input from the pump, top or bottom connection of the E36 rack?
Thanks

Sounds like you should move this to the Technical Help section mate  Can I do this or does a moderator have to move it ?? Think I may have sorted it. Had a quick look this morning and there's a kink in the return hose to the reservoir. Will fix it later.

Weird Steering Issue
Fitted an E36 rack at the weekend, everything seemed fine on Sunday when I last drove the car for it's test drive, slighlty harder to turn left than right but this corrected itself after five minutes. Got in car tonight and as soon as engine fired up steering turns itself to the left, after I turn i...

Re: Biggest Brakes to fit Under 15IN BBS's
has anyone fitted cossie 4 pots on these - i think the cossie discs are 283mm and fit behind 15" bbs on them so dont see why they wont fit with appropriate brackets. Actually you're right, they should fit as Cossie brakes were fitted to my TVR Griff and they had 15IN wheels on the front. Not sure t...

Biggest Brakes to fit Under 15IN BBS's
The brakes on me old red shed are past their best, so I was wondering (as they've got to be replaced soon anyway), is there a reasonably easy bolt on upgrade, i.e. from a 5 Series, that will fit under standard 15IN BBS wheels.

Re: E36 Steering Rack Conversion
Pirtek charged me £112. I asked if they were gold plated unions for that price, bloke says it's the time it takes to make the pipes up. So two hours in gonna be best part of £100 I suspect. They do look a good job and having more hose will aid fitting and routing of pipes. Not fitted yet, so will at...

Re: E36 Steering Rack Conversion
Managed to sort it. Using 14mm spacers in the car forward mounting holes. I've ground off the pinion end of the E36 rack to where the pinch bolt groove is, as on the E30 lower column the groove isn't used at the bottom, only the top column joint. This has given me sufficient reduction in length to n...

E36 Steering Rack Conversion
In the middle of doing this conversion, just interested in how others who have also done the conversion, have modified the column lower shaft. I was gonna follow the method in the Wiki but if there's a simpler way, I'd be interested.

My bird calls the touring, 'Ashes to Ashes', as she feels like she's goneback in time to the 80's. I just refer to it as the Red Shed.

Another great day and the first time for my 325i Touring, did it twice last year in my S2000 but I had far more fun with the red shed yesterday. Re: Z3 Steering Rack
I've just purchased a 2004 E46 330 sport rack, supposedly 3 turns lock to lock. Z3 ones are hard to find and I gave up, can't wait to get the E46 fitted winkeye Where did you find that? Have you tried it to check the 3 turns yet? It was the Club Sport that had the 3 turn rack.. Got it from a breake...

I looked everywhere for a Z3 rack for about 3 months and I was prepared to pay over the odds for one but couldn't find one anywhere. In the end I put an E36 rack on it and it's a great improvement. :) Good luck with the search :? Thanks guys, I'll settle for an E36 rack as it seems a easier option....

Z3 Steering Rack
Just fitted an LSD into the Red Shed Touring, took it for a blast around a quiet mini-island and it drifts a treat, other than the amount of fickin lock I have to keep dialling on with the standard 325 rack and the bus sized steering wheel, so I need a Z3 quick rack, and a smaller steering wheel, so...

Re: Steel Wheels
Just wondering, if you want to muller them at a drift day, why do you specifically want 15's? I know the 14" steels fit over standard rear discs (as I have them on mine), or are you thinking long term and you want them banded and as the replacement all-round car wheels? Yes mate, I still want them ...

Woah, ChemicalAl, thats a lot for steels! You can have 4 steels from me with various mis-matched but mainly legal (think they're in pairs) tyres for £30. But yeah, they're all 14". Thanks for the offer of the 14in's but I really want to stick with 15in's, so if anyone in the Midlands has a pair the...

Re:
I'm booked on, taking the £600, 325i Touring for it's first outing. Just gotta change the diff. It's a good day out, I went twice last year when I had my Honda S2000. There was a few guys in E30's and they seemed to have a better laugh in their cars than I did in mine.
