what are all you 318is owners getting to the gallon most importantly on a run will it do 40+ taking it easy

325tds engine into e30
i want an e30 desperately but i need a diesel as i do a lot of miles so i was wondering if a e36 tds engine can fit in easy enough.

has anyone seen it done? ive got an e46 330d and im thinking of swapping the engine into a e30
