I wish you luck finding a single used one. Five years ago I ended up buying one new from a dealer. You should still be able to do so, but it is expensive!

Re: GSF 'OEM' Alternator - does not fit?
There are two ways that alternators are bolted to an e30. One has the bolts going through rubber bushes (thus the larger holes in your new alternator). This system has to have a wire to earth the alternator. The other system uses bolts straight into the body of the alternator and it earths throught ...

My dad bought me a Craftsman socket set (that will only mean something to folks in USA or Canada) soon after I bought my first car. I am still using that set, 25 years later.

Re: Heater not that hot...
Someone (Brianmoore?) has repeatedly said on here not to reverse flush the e30 heater matrix as it can be damaged this way! I know you can do it on other cars but best not to on an e30.

Re: Heather blows cold when going into a corner???
The 4 big vents that you can move around are only supposed to supply hot air when the heater is on full hot. At all other times they supply cold air. Close them and see what temperature is coming from the system.

Re: Flickering HIDs on E36
I ordered a new pair of bulbs and they are both flickering! I can only think it means there is a dodgy connection. On the side that flickered before I think it is in the twist off cap. On the side that was not flickering before I suspect it may be in the push together connections on the HID kit. I w...

Re: Flickering HIDs on E36
I have just had this problem with one of my new HIDs. After swapping bulbs from side to side I discovered the new bulb was at fault. It seems a bit strange that both of your bulbs are like this. I wonder if you have a bad connection somewhere other than your bulbs. Make sure the headlamp relay is fi...

Re: ABS not working - where to start?
What you both describe is NOT the abs warning light. It is the brake light check system. It simply flashes when you start the car to ask you to push the brake pedal so it can check the brake lights. If you get an owner's manual it will tell you all that and more! If you want a manual check the parts...

If you look on the driver's door pillar you will see that you are permitted to run Q or T rated snowtyres. Obviously if you can use a higher rated tyres if you can find some.

I am using them at the moment. The work well and like they say it does not produce too much dust. What it does produce is easily removed with soap and water.

If it is in absolutely perfect condition then buying it would be cheaper than fixing up a bad one. However, if it has no tax, how can you drive it make sure it is as good as claimed?

touring in Vancouver
I've just got back from three weeks in Vancouver staying with my parents. I saw a nice black e30 touring in Ambleside which I was not expecting (e30 tourings not having been officially sold there). I'd have waved but I was driving my Dad's Caravan and trying to keep on the right side of the road. I ...

Re: Deadlock works on passenger door but not driver door ??
I don't know what is included in the repair kit. I bought a whole new barrel. It is the spring loaded arm on the end that wears and doesn't work properly.

Re: Deadlock works on passenger door but not driver door ??
This is a common fault. The passenger deadlock is triggered from an electric switch on the driver's door lock. The driver's door deadlock is trigered mechanically by the 90 degree turn, when the lock wears it doesn't trigger the mechanical lock any more. If you keep doing this it will eventually dec...

You have to work the engine hard to get the oil hot enough to open the thermostat and send hot oil to the cooler. Mine has never felt warm whenever I have checked it so I probably don't work the engine that hard.

Re: Hand Brake, Brake Fluid & Battey Warning Lamps Glowi
This sounds like the same problem I had recently. It turned out the slip rings (where the brushes on the regualtor touch the alternator) had worn too much for a new regulator to do any good. I bought a recon alternator and this solved the problem. Alternatively you could look for a good secondhand a...

Re: Claus Luthe the man behind the design of the E30
It was only when I read his obituary earlier this year that I discovered that not only had he designed the e30 (amongst other BMWs) but he also worked for NSU and Audi before BMW and had designed my other car an NSU Prinz 4. Unwittingly I have bought two cars by the same designer.

I suspect your car would be more secure without the keyless system. The factory deadlock system is set manually with the doorkey on the driver's door and elecrically on the rest. Even if the keyless system can trigger the electric deadlock on the other doors your driver's door won't have been deadlo...

Voltage regulator problem
My 325i touring started playing up the other week. The charge light stayed on after starting but would go out after reving the engine. I took the voltage regulator off and stretched out the brushes and this provided a temporary fix. I purchased a pattern regulator(not a Bosch) from GSF and when ista...

Disconnecting the battery resets the ecu. Let it idle for 10 minutes to help it relearn how to idle.
