I know of a rust-free touring that is for sale in Northants. Cambelt is broken.
It is on Pistonheads at £550.00 and sounds good.

Broken Cambelt? Alternator? Starter Motor?-316 Touring
Hello. Hope someone may help me out if possible. I think the cambelt has just broken on my partner's 316 Touring when I was driving it. We had been away for the weekend, and the car had stood for nearly 3 days, which is a first as it generally gets used every day. Anyway, I was driving the car and j...

Re: E30 in the snow
I've found the combination of ice, snow, hills, and an E30 316 Touring has made me use fighter pilot levels of concentration. The key to making progress is to add 'ballast' to the rear of the car. In my case I've added 145kg of coal, and this has made life easier. You must also think ahead, try not ...

We used to use TFR in industrial printing 20 years ago, to clean away ink from the printing plates, and it is still used today.

Regarding the drainholes, I could feel them with wire coathanger, but seemed blocked inside further down. I used washing up liquid and then poured boiling water into that area. Cleared all the gunk out and now drains! Made sure car was on a slope so water drained into hole, then turned car around an...

I know this is old now, but today I cleared mine out just with boiling water and washing up liquid, as holes felt (with wire coat hanger) blocked still. Made sure car was on a slope, so water ran into hole, and then turned car around for other side. I tried using cold water the other day, and washin...

Re:
Ok.
Thanks also for that.
Am I best to remove the motor and just see what has gone wrong, or is this going to cause more problems, like the whole sequence then being out?
Again, thanks for any help folks.

Re: Water in Cabby
Well that should do the trick.
I'll be able to have a look in a while as we have some sunshine here in Fashionable Northants.
Thanks for your help. Can you come and do it? Only a short distance from you, if we still had Concorde!

Re: Water in Cabby
I've actually found that the flap that goes up and down does not 'lock' into place, via the two levers that run to a mechanism that also raises and lowers the flap. The wires are slack, but if I manually take up the slack by moving the mechanism by hand both levers move. This indicates either; The m...

Re: Water in Cabby
I see! I did try poking about earlier today with some wire, but this is now much clearer where I'm meant to be poking. Thanks for your help and pictures. Will let you know how I got on. The hood needs weatherproofing with some product (I read Fabsil is good, but not the spray-on version) and this ma...

Re: Water in Cabby
Thanks for that.
There is water both sides, so as you say a seal is not doing its job. The most obvious one is on the rear 'flap' that raises up and down etc.
Is there actually a drain in there though?
I'll have a look tomorrow when light again.
Well done.

Water in Cabby
I'm wondering if there should be water in the area where the cabby hood mechanism folds each side behind the doors, level with where the passengers sit? I would have thought not. I dried it out yesterday, but we had heavy rain overnight and it has about 10mm of water in there again. Could not see an...

The solution was the thermostat.
New one fitted and now all ok.
Thanks for all the help.

How do you adjust the compression onto the seal?
Presumably you can adjust the boot lid itself?

Re: Water in boot
I've found before that water has run down the hole where aerial sits. Also, if aerial has been snapped off, I don't want water sitting in the hole where aerial once was. Underneath where the jack sits, under the lining, there was a block of foam that was soaking wet. I removed that and sealed aerial...

Re: 1991 318 Running Cold
Thanks again Sir!
If I stand at drivers front wing, with rad on my right, is the thermostat underneath the dizzy cap, or the other side of it, towards the cooling fan? Does that make sense?

Re: 1991 318 Running Cold
Thanks for getting back to me, folks.
The car is a facelift model. If I know where thremostat is I can at least check and that is one problem out of the way.

1991 318 Running Cold
Hello. Hope someone can help if possible. Bought a 318 manual a week ago. Just started to run the car and it is showing very low temp in gauge, even when hot. Have tried bleeding system from top of rad (the small screw) and no change. No air to speak of came out. Did it when hot with heater on etc. ...
