Re: My 1988 320i needs convincing to start
It can be the faulty of fuel system. Measure the pressure in the fuel rail. Maybe the fuel pressure regulator doesn't keep the sufficient load(2.5 bars on m20b20). So the motor fails to start.

Re: How to tell a 3.64 diff?
All is the same but a little bit contrariwise. 3.64 turns of the input shaft result in 1 turn of the output. Input rotates faster then output.maxfield wrote:One turn of the input shaft will be 3.64 turns of the out put shafts. (Assuming it is a 3.64 diff)

Re: What Diff would be best?
According to specs 4.10 ratio diff is installed on your car(if stock condition). So if you want to lower the revs you should try a diff with lower ratio value(3.91 or 3.64 as leeparkes offered for instance)

When I claened injectors on mine I used the battery voltage to move injector( i.e. 12 volts, m40 engine). hd_andy, I think you have broken the weakness of injector wiring. Check the nearby to the plug wiring. probably it'll help

Oh , sorry , I didn't know that m20 has a spring tensioner. I thought there is the same construction like on m40 engine.Brianmoooore wrote:andrews wrote: 2. The M20 has a built in tensioner spring which does the job for you, before you tighten the tensioner pulley clamp.

Re: 1987 320i timing belt
But while changing the belt there are two main items:
1. The crankshaft and cam phases must be keeped precisely
2. The belt is installed with a specified tension

[ What is your normal cold season temp? I think it's warm enough. In my region it can be 25 deg below 0C and lower. I use 5W40 oil. Good point, doe,s it really get cold enough to warrant a winter oil change here? 5W40 , which I use all the year round is mostly to ensure that it'll be OK while cold ...

It doesn't NEED to be on the Wiki but hey, does any of it?!? Some people use the Wiki as one of their first references for info and if it's on there, people like me will find it and learn something useful. Therefore, I think it should be on the Wiki you are right. Let it be there. I also often look...

Re: 325i wont start
Check is there the fuel supply and return connected properly to the rail(not contrariwise). Inspect the injector plug , which is under the inlet port. Check the ignition system: the voltage to the coil and spark on its HT terminal. If there is no fuel and spark while crank revving, then inspect CKP ...

Re: Injector cleaner - which type?
I cleaned my injector with Wynns(1 liter pack). First I washed it in the special wynns cleaner station(as it tells the manual), but one year later, I poured it directly in the fuel tank. And nothing horrible has happened. Also my friend who works at Ford dealer says that Liqui Moly cleaner works ver...

I see you have leanred this question yourself very well. So just make a choice what will be better for you: oldschool, simple and reliable as a sledgehammer m30 or modern, more silent and advanced m50. I don't know what I would prefer.

Re: rear arm bushes
+1 to daimlerman. hongkongfuey, it's very difficult to remove the bushings from the arm. I used telescope hydraulic jack between arm fork to extract the rubbers. Also I heated the bush loops with a heat gun. You can try to refit without total removing, until you will understand that it's uncomfortab...

hongkongfuey, You know, it's compltely unreal. To change rear arm bushings it's necessary to remove the arm. Regardless of the way how you do this, you will need to unscrew the arms from the subframe
