I've just added a few more pics, including a couple of inside the boot, to give a better idea of the damage. So, do you guys agree that it looks like a write off? Also, what sort of price should I try and get for it? Its in VGC, 126k miles. I payed £1100 for it in december and Id be very pissed of...

To be honest, the car is (well, was) in very good nick but it holds no sentimental value to me. As long as I get a fair price from the insurance, I'll be happy, but it just seems a big shame and a waste of a decent E30 with plenty of life left in it. Should I keep you guys posted incase any of you f...

Yes, you spend days after thinking you can hear funny noises that the car wouldnt be making if you had'nt ragged it. quote] I always always always think 'idiot' after a bit of a caning. I have no idea why. I spose I worry about the car ect ect. Stupid really. They both sound very familiar to me! An...

Anybody know if this will be a right-off? More pics
I got shunted from the rear on Friday. Does anybody with a bit of knowledge of bodywork repairs (and their costs) or insurance claims reckon the insurance company will repair this or will they write it off? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y226/superbracey/bmw4.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y...

Fitting new alternator - quick question
Is it normal to need to file the metal down a bit on a new alternator so that the new one will fit in the brackets within the engine bay? Because, although the new alternator looked identical to the old one when i exchanged it at GSF today, I can't get it to fit in the lower bracket in the engine ba...

What have I done to my engine? Please help me!
I had to drive my mate to A&E in the early hours of this morning. We went in my recently purchased 1991 325se auto. On the way there I floored it for a few seconds and the auto box kicked down and it accelerated quickly. However, when I eased off, I was instantly aware of a new clicking/ticking soun...

How do i reset "Litres Remaining" display when I b
I found out on this forum that you can view the amount of fuel remaining in the tank by pressing the bottom left and bottom right buttons on the OBC simultaneously. This displays the number of litres of fuel remaining on the OBC. I also read somewhere that its accuracy can decrease over time and tha...

Ive not quite mastered it in my 3-series yet, despite it being my 3rd. I suppose that it would be best to hold it in 2nd, being an auto 325. In my works Sprinter van, it all happens so much slower and relaxed, I find it easy to do it in that (well, get the back end out, not exactly drifting). Maybe ...

Differential oil question - what is "hypoid" oil?
The owners handbook that came with my 325 auto says you should use an SAE 90 hypoid oil for the rear differential (the exact specification of which is available at my local BMW dealer). Ive just bought some Castrol Differential Oil (80-90W), but nowhere on the bottle does it mention the word "hypoid...

I knocked him down to Ԛ£1100. Not bargain of the century, but its a very tidy car with history. Everything works (except headlight hight adjustment switch). It had remote central locking fitted in 2003 (have got the receipt), which closes all windows/sunroof and locks the doors when you blip it...

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's bargain of the century, judging by the prices of 4 doors and autos I was under the imression autos were worth slightly more. My mistake. Ive had a 325 coupe and a 320 saloon, both manuals. and there are no head problems, and the coolant looks nice, and not dark a...

What do you guys think of my potential next motor? Its a 325SE auto (Ive never had an auto before!), FSH up to 2003/90k miles, its now at 120k miles and the previous owner serviced it himself. A small amount of rust has appeared at the front edge of the rear wheel arches but the rest of the bodywork...

You're lucky mate! Glad you werent hurt badly. 11 months on and I'm still gutted about writing off my beloved 325. She was mint. On the subject of speedometer accuracy, they have some flashing signs near me that indicate your speed as you're entering a 30 mph zone. I wanted to see how accurate my speedo was, so I did exactly 40mph (indicated on my speedo) through the speed trap and it said 35mph! So Im wondering if this is wh...

320 with uneven idle when hot
This isnt a major concern of mine, but Ive noticed that when my engines hot and im sat in traffic (or more usually, McDonalds drive-thru) the engine revs tend to rise very slightly then settle again every 5-10seconds. Assuming its ticking over at 650 rpm (?), the revs seem to rise to about 800rpm fo...

I think most of the essentials have already been mentioned. I was proud of the way my Ԛ£300 320 gobbled up the miles last Sunday. Thing is, I was supposed to be convoying with a couple of brand-new cars up the M4, M5 & M6, but they sped off at 90mph. It was a scorcher of a day at 90 farenheit (...

I dont think the fact different oils have been mixed together would cause a problem so quickly - maybe in the long term. At the end of the day, they're still lubricating the essential bits and bobs, all be it not as good as they should do because they won't mix together properly. The poor starting a...

I get the impression you're a bit pleased! Good on you, sounds like a nice car. I believe many E30's suffer from speedo problems, as did mine when i bought it in March. Was it you? Race-prepped E30 on trailer on M6
I was coming back from a wedding down south and saw a race-prepped E30 being towed by a Land Rover followed by a BMW Racing Team trailer being towed by a Volvo. The race car had E30 Zone stickers on it and I overtook slowly in my red 320 to have a look at it. This was north bound on either the M5 or...

I've read various topics regarding which fuel and which octane is best but there have been many, often conflicting, opinions.
