I've just added a few more pics, including a couple of inside the boot, to give a better idea of the damage. So, do you guys agree that it looks like a write off? Also, what sort of price should I try and get for it? Its in VGC, 126k miles. I payed £1100 for it in december and Id be very pissed of...

To be honest, the car is (well, was) in very good nick but it holds no sentimental value to me. As long as I get a fair price from the insurance, I'll be happy, but it just seems a big shame and a waste of a decent E30 with plenty of life left in it. Should I keep you guys posted incase any of you f...

I'll look into buying it back. It would be a shame for it to be scrapped. But Im not too well off at the moment, so it will be a case of doing whatever is most economically viable.

Would it be a case of me saying to the insurance people "I'll offer you £X amount to buy it back off you"?

I got shunted from the rear on Friday. Does anybody with a bit of knowledge of bodywork repairs (and their costs) or insurance claims reckon the insurance company will repair this or will they write it off? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y226/superbracey/bmw4.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y...

Fitting new alternator - quick question

Is it normal to need to file the metal down a bit on a new alternator so that the new one will fit in the brackets within the engine bay? Because, although the new alternator looked identical to the old one when i exchanged it at GSF today, I can't get it to fit in the lower bracket in the engine ba...

What have I done to my engine? Please help me!

I had to drive my mate to A&E in the early hours of this morning. We went in my recently purchased 1991 325se auto. On the way there I floored it for a few seconds and the auto box kicked down and it accelerated quickly. However, when I eased off, I was instantly aware of a new clicking/ticking soun...

How do i reset "Litres Remaining" display when I b

I found out on this forum that you can view the amount of fuel remaining in the tank by pressing the bottom left and bottom right buttons on the OBC simultaneously. This displays the number of litres of fuel remaining on the OBC. I also read somewhere that its accuracy can decrease over time and tha...

Ive not quite mastered it in my 3-series yet, despite it being my 3rd. I suppose that it would be best to hold it in 2nd, being an auto 325. In my works Sprinter van, it all happens so much slower and relaxed, I find it easy to do it in that (well, get the back end out, not exactly drifting). Maybe ...

Differential oil question - what is "hypoid" oil?

The owners handbook that came with my 325 auto says you should use an SAE 90 hypoid oil for the rear differential (the exact specification of which is available at my local BMW dealer). Ive just bought some Castrol Differential Oil (80-90W), but nowhere on the bottle does it mention the word "hypoid...

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's bargain of the century, judging by the prices of 4 doors and autos I was under the imression autos were worth slightly more. My mistake. Ive had a 325 coupe and a 320 saloon, both manuals. and there are no head problems, and the coolant looks nice, and not dark a...

What do you guys think of my potential next motor? Its a 325SE auto (Ive never had an auto before!), FSH up to 2003/90k miles, its now at 120k miles and the previous owner serviced it himself. On the subject of speedometer accuracy, they have some flashing signs near me that indicate your speed as you're entering a 30 mph zone. 320 with uneven idle when hot

This isnt a major concern of mine, but Ive noticed that when my engines hot and im sat in traffic (or more usually, McDonalds drive-thru) the engine revs tend to rise very slightly then settle again every 5-10seconds. Assuming its ticking over at 650 rpm (?), the revs seem to rise to about 800rpm fo...

I dont think the fact different oils have been mixed together would cause a problem so quickly - maybe in the long term.
