I fitted a new rear one on my car, didn't have a fitting tool and just about managed it with a blunt screwdriver some lube and an old filler spreader. Just reading through the messages and wondered if my car might be of interest to you. I think 316's had 1.8 engines anyway, dont know how much extra a 318i would cost you to insure.
