Re: Instrument cluster parts swap

Ciao MrAsp, Have you replaced the wire to the plug on the differential? It is a common fault for cracks in this wire to cause the speedo to stop working. The soldered connections in the instrument cluster can also cause intermittent electrical faults. This link shows how to repair it. http://www.un...

Instrument cluster parts swap

Hy guys, I need ur help! My '84 320i instrument cluster doesn't work properly. In particular the speedometer works only when it is hot (sunlight on the dash, heater on), the SIA's leds are blinking, also with new batteries ( 8O) (the speedo didn't work also before the SIA problem) and the econometer...

Re: Reading speedo pulses

You seem to have found the correct wire, but not where I said! There are four sockets on the back of an E30 instrument cluster - the blue one (A), the white one (B), the yellow one (C), and a green one (F). Confusion has arisen here, because the plastic frame of the green socket isn't always fitted...

Re: MPG meter on 320i

The most common speedo problem on E30s is an internal break in the wiring to the diff sensor, within a few inches of the sensor. The vibrations from the diff 'work harden' the copper wire over time and make it brittle. The last 300mm or so of cable to the diff should be replaced, complete with plug...

Re: MPG meter on 320i

This isn't some kind of crude vacuum gauge - it's an accurate gauge. It computes the instantaneous fuel consumption by comparing road speed information from the speedo with injector pulse width and engine speed information from the ECU. The usual failure mode is to lose the road speed information. ...

In my '84 320i the speedo works only when it wants. I noticed that it works properly when the cluster is hot (when the car is exposed to the sun, during summer for example), and sometimes for a few moments when the car is very cold. :? The odometer does the same. I think the wiring is ok... Maybe th...

I have this problem (master cylinder KO) on my '84 320i.
Where can I find on the net a replace kit for my M/S?

I've surfed the web, but I didn't find anything. :?

My car has got an "ATE" master cylinder, without ABS.

"Quattroruote", an italian auto magazine, tested a 320i like mine is in 1983, and registered a 8.33 sec. from 0 to 100km/h (approx 62mph).

I tried some years ago... 10 sec...

I have to try again!! 8)

The part broken in my car was the regulator of dash light brightness, included in the headlight switch.

You can try to fix/remove it.

Does it works on your car?
