Re:
In my opinion, you've got that the wrong way around. . . E30's will cruise happily at 3 figure speeds, and are far more refined than you might expect. With a bit of cash behind me I'd buy a decent one, strip the parts into labelled boxes, acid dip, galvanise, repsray the shell, doors, boot, bonnet,...

Thanks for the link- every website has its trusted bodyshop/specialist. Who is the one of choice on here? I'm in Sheffield, so would be nice if it wasn't too far away!

Re:
Cheers guys- Perhaps literally "as new" might be pushing it but I really intend doing this- the most important bit is the "galvanising" it so it's rust proof- as much as a new cars are these days. I wouldn't mind using it quite often- which is not something thar can be done with an E30 in standard f...

Which makes finding a good one extremely difficult. I have this idea of doing this long term project. I fancy b...

Re: I'd love an E30- but got an '09 MINI Cooper S...
The OP's tale of woe regarding his diesel mini shows that modern cars at least allow one to walk away from a serious accident, not too sure that a 20 year old E30 would stand the same test. Has the OP considered all the implications of older car ownership? E30's range in price/value from less than £...

I'd love an E30- but got an '09 MINI Cooper S...
...I used to own a variety of Mk2 Golfs, moved on to the lardy Mk3 VR6 and then decided to go for brand new... Had an 06 A3, then moved on to a Cooper D (I was doing a few miles). I then had a crash on the motorway, the guy behind me was drunk and decided to hit me in the rear end. Spun, rolled, and...
