Re: What is the best way to clear water from the oil...?
Stonsie, I appreciate that, but unfortunately I don't have the money to insure it full stop! Hence it being sat there doing nothing, rather than me enjoying driving it! I'll be honest, I'm not expecting top dollar for it, i'll admit it's a little rough around the edges,(I bought it with the intentio...

Re: What is the best way to clear water from the oil...?
Daimlerman, I can't run it anywhere due to no insurance, and I'm a little unsure as to whether or not a potential buyer would be happy with me supplying oil and filter with the suggestion that it'll want changing again in a couple of hundred miles or so. I've just dropped the oil now after running i...

Will that get rid of all the mess? I can't see the mayo dripping out of it's own accord?
Compression is up, and it'll run right, it's just the mess that's in the oil I'm not happy with!

What is the best way to clear water from the oil...?
Hey everyone, Not posted for a while, but I've got to get my E30 ready for sale now, as I'm moving out of the country soon, and I have a slight problem... Basically, as some of you may have read, I bought my E30, and the headgasket promptly gave up, shortly after, I was made redundant. I did all the...

Re: Flushing out engine oil + mess...
I've tried using a couple of engine flush tins that you mix in with the used oil, but to no avail, there's still gunk in the top of the head, thus causing a little smoke.
The headgasket is right now, so it is only residual, but it's so damn hard to get rid of!

Re: Flushing out engine oil + mess...
Yes, the headgasket failed so I put a new one in, had the head rebuilt, skimmed, pressure tested, new water pump, timing belt and tensioner etc... I need to get it cleaned out properly as I plan to sell it, and it doesn't look good if there's residual water in the oil from the failure. Hmm... I'm no...

Flushing out engine oil + mess...
... does anybody have any magical methods or advice as to how I should go about cleaning the old oil and water/oily mess from inside the engine? I ran some engine flush through with one lot of oil, but to no avail. Now, not wishing to consume too much oil without needing to, I've decided to ask for ...

I don't suppose anyone would be willing to take a photograph of the expansion tank from above, without the cap in it would they please?
I've got part of the old cap out, and i'm ready to order the new one, but I just want to make sure i've not damaged the tank neck by mistake

Re: Head Gasket Failure... Part 2, the Fix!
No, it's already been replaced, with the number 140 on the bottom IIRC?
The cap holds itself onto the internals by 4 small lips of plastic, and now they won't stay gripped well enough to remove the internals, so i'm stuck!

Re: Head Gasket Failure... Part 2, the Fix!
I thought it was all done! The cap for the expansion tank, with the pressure rating on it, the actual grip has come away from the internal piece of said cap, if that makes more sense? Meaning I have the cap off, but the internal bit still seals the expansion tank. It may be OK, but until I can get t...

Re: Head Gasket Failure... Part 2, the Fix!
Ok, now I've had enough. I can't figure out if i've done something wrong, or if it's just generally buggered or what, but having just spent several hundred pounds on it, it still isn't right. To add insult to injury, the cap has come off the pressure regulating part of the expansion tank, and as a r...

Brian, yes I had, and it seems I was just being impatient I think. Right, I've done the valves, and they sound much better now, however, I can't get the water to circulate properly, dispite having tested the thermostat and bled the system a number of times, it still won't circulate. Is it possible the thermostat could have died since testing, without having been us...

w0000p!
Started and driven down my road and back!
Still got the slight stutter occasionally, so some more leak hunting to be done, but apart from that, it runs!
I'll need to adjust the valves aswell, am I best setting them when hot or cold?

Some pudding has decided to let his pet mice live in the airbox in my car's past, it would seem.
There are more holes in it than your local golf course!
So this in mind, do I use my BMC Carbon Dynamics Airbox, or do I repair the standard airbox with some gaffa tape?

Re: Head Gasket Failure... Part 2, the Fix!
I would check the wiring connections for the oil sender, if that's fine then sometimes the level sensors do stick after an oil change so you will need to get the oil hot before the float will re-float itself... As long as the oil pressure light is behaveing normally then it will be fine. By not sta...
