Re: m50 turbo
Yes please. I must progress with mine too. I cheated and bought a stainless manifold from Ebay for mine. Looks pretty, will see how long it lasts. Only problem is although it'll fit my engine, it won't fit my car. (Fouls the steering box). I have a fe ideas though, including rotating the engine on i...

Re: m52/m50 hybrid??
Hmm, I am thinking of doing this to mine aswell now. Then again, I suppose the longer stroke will make the engine slightly less inclined to rev and as the car is supposed to be a track day screamer (in a 5 series?!) I might just leave it as the shorter stroke 2.5.

Re: m52/m50 hybrid??
The M50 came in two sizes, 2.0ltr and 2.5ltr giving the engine codes M50 B20 and M50 B25 respectively. The M52 also came in two sizes, 2.3ltr and 2.8ltr giving the designations M52 B23 and M52 B28 (I think). The internals from the 2.8ltr M52 can be trsnaferred to the 2.5ltr M50 block to give it a bi...

Right, I've found one with this model number:
TD4L-13T
It means bugger all to me, can anyone else shed any light on it?

Suitable turbos for an M50 B25?
Hello folks, probably been done to death but what are the generaly accepted turbos to use on turbo conversions to the 2.5 ltr M50 lump? Also, what donors are most likely to hide them? Would a Turbo from a Volvo V70 T5 for instance be man enough? I'm keeping standard compression at the moment so not ...

Re: Engine weights request.
Thanks for that.
Looking at those two lists then there appears to be a weight difference of 10kg to 12kg betwen the two engines. I might have to hold off drilling too many lightening holes in the back of the Bratwurst in case it does end up with that V8 up front!

Engine weights request.
Hello folks, Could some one please point me in the right direction to finding the weights of some of the BMW engines? I'm after the fully dressed weights of the M50B25 2.5ltr 24 valve straight six and the M60B40 4.0ltr V8. Or alternatively the bare engine weights of both, so long as I can compare. C...

Thanks very much for that, very informative. Sadly the car is an auto so the box (and more concerningly the flywheel) has to be sorted yet.
Was a pricey job sorting the timing chain tensioners?
Cheers.

Hello folks, could you fine people please give me the low down on the BMW M60 V8 engine? I'm mainly interested in the 4.0ltr version. Re: Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50
Thanks for that, it certainly does seem to be more biased to emissions than torque improvements.
And yes, I am planning on raceing this car, but only on track days (if I can afford them) and the Practical Performance Car magazines £999 challenge.
Cheers for the help.

Re: Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50
Cool, it's sounding like the non-vanos is the better of the two for track abuse then. That suites me fine. Reliability is an important factor as I haven't the money for constant repairs and rebuilds.

Re: Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50
Really? I thought the whole reason for developing the Vanos system was to improve the relatively low torque at lower rpm?

Re: Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50
7,000 revs sounds fast enough for me! :) Saying that, I haven't started racing yet. I think I'm going to have fun playing with this. Saying that, it doesn't even run at the moment. I think the AFM is up the spout. I removed the air filter box and has been driving it around work a few times which app...

Re: Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50
OK, ta very much. That knocks that idea on the head then. I was just looking to see if it were a viable option to try to gain some torque lower down the rev range. Having said that, hopefully the weight-loss program my old E34 has been on will have a similar effect performance wise. Are these M50 en...

Can the Vanos system be retro fitted to a Non-Vanos M50 B25?
As the title asks, can it be done?
Does the Vanos system make a noticeable improvement?
Is it true that the non-vanos engines have a slightly stronger bottom end?
Thanks for any help.

Re: cosworth 4 pot brake calipers...
I've recently sold a set of these calipers with discs and modified hubs for a mk3/4 Escort. I have to say the callipers are very heavy! £100 might seem sheap for a pair of four pot callipers but aren't there any better alternatives out there that don't weigh so much?

Re: M50 B25 Backfiring, any initial suggestions?
Was the original problem your car had the backfire or the hunting idle? I think with this car the Backfire is the problem, the hunting at the moment I beleive is a side effect from the initial backfire blowing something off the inlet tract causing an air leak.

I would want a simply bolt in and plug in job if I were to swap the engine as I have enough projects on the go as it is and the cars not worth it. (E34 by the way)
Would upset a few people mind having a Beemer with powered by Ford on it.

Hello folks, The valve rattle from my 518's M40 engine is getting pretty bad now to the point that it's sounding like an old Pinto with a knacked camshaft.
