easy one i hope my 318IS gear stick keeps going back to the middle no matter what gear its in?
it goes into any gear fine but after you put it in gear it springs back to the middle?

yer i think she is just boiling her water so you will need a new cap if that is where the leak is put if you cant see leaks elsewhere then its the only thing i can think of?
p.s was just curious about white smoke making sure it wasn't draining into the cilinders via the head gasket

seems pretty common i though i had worn piston rings or a leaky head for the lack of power but compression is still good bless her!

can you let us know how you get on im having similar problems with my M42 idles rough lack of power in the lower range and when she eventually gets to the higher range i get a strong smell of fumes bit like petrol inside the car she is definatly running rich, and even with my mods she is drinking a ...

you will have to take the head off for that while doing tappets you only need to take the cams off but if your doing that then new head gasket (naturally) valve stem seals and check your valve clearences?

let the car get up too temp then remove the cape slowly if its stiff and the water starts to come out the top then i would say its holding pressure also give the pipes a squeeze while the cars running to see what kind of pressure your getting in the system?

bugger that for an extra 20 quid you can get new tie rods as well, i always change mine from the steering rack all the way to the track rod end and when its done its done

i dont think it make much difference with the car moving or stationary as long as you keep the revs low until she is warm and then drift on!!!

my 318 has sports cams straight through exhaust inducation kit and kits out a sexy 170 brake which is ass i did fit a turbo to one a while back that chewed the pistons in a month and doing so you need to uprate the bottom end with stronger conrods! for the money spent you could pick up a 325 lump an...

oo i had the same problem on my 318is found that it was just a nakered fuse check your fuses to see how they look if not not sure hope it helps

lol just checked for fuel leeks all pipes under intake manifold are good just checked the exhaust manifold which also looks good no cracks or holes of any kind also have noticed a lack of power

hey guys started noticing the smell of fumes while driving my e30 318is M42 more noticably when driving hard getting high in the rev range think it might be an leaky exhaust manufold gasket is there anyway of checking any ideas?????

the pipes all over the car are crap most of them dont even have clips on them. also im aware that the timing chain has a tentioner which im not sure is automatic.
the AFM i know you check it with an ohm meter from the glove box but is there a way of cleaning it or checking its not clogged???

check you wheel bearings and running gear for any movements i had same problem a couple months ago and it sorted my low speed vibrations
