Has anyone done propper tyre temp testing with cambers???
It would be nice to know what cambers are optimum for a track car on slicks and on trackday tyres.

Re: Do eccentric bushes have fixed castor or need castor set
Set the eccentric bushes so that the arm is as far out as possible for maximum caster. In the past i've had the bushes rotate when on the car so every set i have fitted since i have drilled through the wishbone and bush and driven a small self tapping screw through the wishbone and just into the bus...

Re: Wheel Studs instead of nuts
Clean out the threads of the hub and the stud with brake cleaner before using loctite otherwise it adheres to the grime in the threads rather than the thread itself. Also, with 270/272 loctite if you ever need to remove the studs for any reason then heat up the hub with a hot air gun and it will rel...

Re: what tyre pressure on track - 325 with 888's
WTF? pressure science is all about getting optimum tyre temperatures, its got nothing to do with stiffness. Pressures are irrelevant as long as they're not stupidly low and cause punctures when taking the curbs.Mox3d wrote:

Sounds like it could be the water pump. They have an internal canal with an outlet so that when the water pump starts leaking internally it lets water out so that you know its fooked. There are quite a few hoses around the stat housing too so check all the hose clips are ok and hose condition etc. L...

Has it got gradually worse? Sounds like the synchros are fooked on 1st and 2nd but check the linkage as it could be something simple. If it is the synchros then a replacement box would be favorite.

Re: Adjustable top mounts
You can make standard top mounts adjustable by filing the holes to make slots in the 2 inner most holes and weld a tap on to where the 3rd(outer) hole is also with a slot in. Done right this then gives you as must adjustment as these fancy million dollar mounts you can buy. I'l post a pic of the one...

M3 top mounts give you more camber as they're offset. Ive got them on mine and i think it was about 1 3/4' negative camber last time i checked. It's lowered as well though. If you're serious about revamping the suspension then as the first reply says I'd look at the powerflex kit.

It's not like taking the gearbox off is that tricky. If you've got half an idea about what your doing and can get the car high enough then getting to the bolts is the only tricky bit. Wouldnt fancy doing it in the snow though!

What sort of price 2.7 bits?
Been doing a bit of research into 2.7s and was wondering how much the cranks and flat top pistons go for?
Was thinking 2nd hand and only looking for a rough guide of how much I should be looking at for these bits?

For what it's worth i'd throw a stat in it too. When I did my head gasket I completely rebuilt the top end starting with a brand new head casting and a brand new schrick cam. Fired it up and got it warm, bled it through and it seemed fine. Took it for a run and it got hot. Stat was fooked which is p...

"Pay Cheap ,Buy Twice" The phrase is buy cheap, Buy twice. Also, in this instance i totally disagree. I use standard feredo road pads on my track e30. My 2.7 was built with a 731 head with a 288 schrick cam, 6 branch, bbtb and a custom map by AMD. It made 204.3 horsepower(164 at whp) at 5729Rpm and 219.6lb ft at 3968Rpm. This was just after the previous owner had it built by BMW. I would personally like to see how these figures would compare to a ...

You will deffinately struggle getting the UJ on if the rack is mounted. Get the UJ on and then try and get the rack bolted to the subframe. This usually has to be done with standard racks on most cars.

Re: advice on building a track car....
You wont build a e36 328 track car for 2k. The main benefit of the e30 is the bang for buck. To build an e36 thats quicker than a e30 325 round the track thats cost you 2k you'd have to spend more like 4 or 5k building the e36.

Re: advice on building a track car....
I agree 2k is a reasonable budget for a track car. As long as you dont want it to be the prettiets looking thing in the world £500 could get you a good car. My first advice is go for a 325 over a 318 or 320 as they are a much better starting point. I bought my track car for 1k and it had a lot of wo...

Re: Help, new m20 head on, but can't align crankshaft to mar
Have you got the plugs in? If so take them out. It could just be compression fooling you as valves hitting pistons. There is no way valve to piston contact is possible if both pulleys are on tdc marks. You sure you're using the right marks on the pulleys and engine/head? You must be doing something ...
