Re: How do you unbolt the viscous fan?
I use a 10mm spanner on a pulley bolt positioned where it can't turn and where it prevents the pulleys from turning. Then the 32mm (also same size as a bike headset spanner) can take the fan off really easily with a bar on it - reverse thread as mentioned. They say storing the fan upright supposedly...

Re: Brake pad warning light question
The sensor itself should stay clipped in securely enough because it's right in the middle of the brake pad and so should be unlikely to come out, but it could be possible for the plug for it to be loose. You can get at that easily as it's clipped to the back of the brake disc protection plate. It's ...

Re: Brake pad warning light question
It's nothing more than a couple of wires that run into a small piece of plastic clipped into the brake pad. When the pad gets low enough on material the plastic of the sensor wears through and the electrical connection between the two wires breaks and the check light comes on. As a result they need ...

I weighed my leather seats for you as I've been meaning to check what they weigh anyway. Rear seat back (with headrests): 15kg Rear bench: 6kg Front seat (each): 21kg I can't get to my door cards but no doubt someone else can tell you the weights for those. They all fit in one cardboard box together...

Re: e46 radio
When I had an e46 it came with a 6 disc changer in the boot plus the tape head unit. I bought a BMW Business CD head unit off ebay and swapped that over myself. It didn't cost a lot and was very easy to do so I can recommend doing that if you can.

Thanks, I'll check that too. It'll probably be next weekend now before I get a chance to look again. I was hoping it would be something adrift like that when it first went because I've already had to fix a number of other issues on the car due to similar problems - two jubilee clips loose and missin...

Re: What's this connector?
Yes, it's strange because I tried the other two clusters to no avail, and I also swapped over a spare ECU yesterday briefly just because it was a quick thing to check but it made no difference either. I'm thinking of trying to get my other E30 running - I'm hoping that just has a flat battery from b...

Re: What's this connector?
I gave pin 9 a quick clean but there's no change. It looks very clean inside C101 - no signs of any corrosion or any water getting in. I double checked the connection afterwards and it's definitely getting continuity across that pin.

Re: What's this connector?
I've had this car for around nine months. The rev counter originally worked. The car had another engine swapped into it in September which was like for like - another facelift 325 engine into what is a facelift 325se. The rev counter worked at that stage too and suddenly gave up two or three weeks l...

I just checked pin 6 of the ECU plug with pin 7 of the blue plug and I do get a connection.
Any suggestions as to what else it might be?

I do have the OBC fitted - when it works, as it's out of action with the rev counter at the moment - although it doesn't have any cables going near that connector.

Re:Cabon Fibre Bonnets £450 Orders now being taken.
What's the recommended method of fixing the roundel to these bonnets? Is it safe to drill the two holes for the pegs on the back of the badge to slot into like a regular bonnet, or is it better to cut the pegs off and fix it on another way?

Hmm, the other end of the cable terminates in the bottom of the fusebox from what I could see. I'll have another look.
The car did have an imobiliser fitted to it in the past - the wiring loom behind the glovebox looks hacked to bits.
