Re: 318IS

It's still as revvy with the M44 in. The M42 head breathes very well as it has big valves for the size of the engine, so not a restriction at all. I remember your 205 Jon. Looked like a good fun track car, should be really quick with 185bhp too. I did think about piggyback ECU, but they're expensive...

Re: 318IS

Cough, 160, BS, Cough! The only way I think you can get an m42 to that level is a 1.9litre bottom end, custom management and some tweeking on the cam timing. I never 'got' BBTB's. Sheps had a customer with the above setup and it broke over 160 IIRC, but this is far from a simple chip and BadBorethr...

Re: 318iS EXHAUST

I have a "Longlife" custom made stainless steel exhaust on my 318iS and it's really good. They've done away with the front box, just got a middle and back box with 2" tailpipe which means it's not too noisy at all. It made a pretty good difference to performance too.

In terms of the diff, it depends if it's an LSD or not. For an LSD use Castrol SAF-XJ, for an open diff, normal EP90 gear oil should be fine.

Dunno about the gearbox, check out the BMW owners manual, it'll tell you in there. If you havent got it I'll dig mine out later and have a look.

Re:

It wasn't skimmed, just assembled as is. I have been thinking about skimming the head to get the compression up a bit though, 10.8:1 or something maybe. Also I was going to have a look at the ports and see if there are any sharp edges around the valve seats that could be smoothed out, I think the fa...

Re:

Hi Paul, Really sorry to hear about your and your friends loss, my thoughts are with you and her family. Many thanks for running my car on Saturday, I think the Megasquirt proved a remap is worth a bit, and I'm sure you can do quite a lot better with a UniQ than I have done with my rough map which I...

Re:

Hi Paul,

I'll just turn up at 9:30 or 10:00 if thats OK then and run whenever there is a space, I'm not fussy about booking a specific time.

I've held off doing the suspension so I'll definitely be able to make it :D

Cheers, Simon

Re:

Hi Paul, I've only just seen your thread about the rolling road day next saturday. I have the 1.9 M44 in mine now and would be really interested in joining in the rolling road day if its still going ahead - just as I want to see what its making with the 1.9 engine. Are you planning on booking time s...

Springs - H&R or Eibach?

I'm planning to buy some springs to improve the handling of my 318is - it seems that H&R and Eibach are two of the best products available.

Has anyone had experience of either of these products - which would you recommend? I have some uprated dampers to fit with the uprated springs.

Cheers, Simon
