Re: Car Won't Start - Fuel Supply Maybe??

Thanks for all your great help and advice guys. I followed as many pointers as I could that you gave me until I ran out of talent. The car still wouldn't start so I had to call Britannia Rescue and use their Homestart service. The chappy that arrived spent 90 mins on the car but did finally get her ...

Re: Car Won't Start - Fuel Supply Maybe??

if someone cranks the car you can hear the pump running (best way is to pull up the rear seat base or listen from underneath) if not definitive then remove the fuel pump relay (normally orange) and jump pins 30 and 87 with a piece of wire. now with ignition back on the fuel pump should continuoisly...

That's great JJ26, very helpful indeed. I'll take a look for the filter tomorrow and order up a spare. Thanks.

If it doesn't solve the problem......I'll be back.

Car Won't Start - Fuel Supply Maybe??

My wife told me her '88 318i two-door wouldn't start today. I've had a go myself and the engine's turning over but it's just not catching. At a guess I'd say fuel starvation was the problem. One of my missus' more infuriating habits despite us living opposite a petrol garage is to let the tank run l...

Brake Pedal Return Problem

The brake lights on my 318i are staying on occasionally even when my foot is completely removed from the pedal resulting in me getting a few angry flashes from other drivers. :( I've had a look at the switch on the pedal and it looks fine and certainly doesn't seem to be sticking. The problem seems ...

Yes, I'll take a look at the switch and see if it's something I can fix before ordering a replacement.

Intermittent Brake Light flashing

I noticed last night that my wife's 318i's brake lights are flickering on and off as she drives along almost like she's tapping her brake pedal intermittently.....which of course she isn't. What could be causing this? As it affects both brake lights together I'm guessing it's not a loose connection ...

The alarming and immobilising side of it is the bonus, the bit we're more interested in is the remote locking.

Alarm Costs???

I'm thinking of having an alarm fitted to my wife's 318i as she's struggling to get the doors locked and unlocked with the key at the moment in the dark whilst carrying our daughter. We don't want anything special, just enough to protect both doors, boot, bonnet, interior and provide remote locking ...

Re: Central Locking Actuator

Any ideas? :? TBH, not really! The white blue and black wires on one door connect to the same coloured wires on the other side by soldered joints in the loom, and the plugs and sockets in the B pillar. I suppose you could use a meter to check for continuity between the matching colours o the two si...

Re: Central Locking Actuator

Connect a piece of wire to a good earth, and tee it temporarily into the white wire. Try to lock the doors with this wire in place, but make sure you disconnect it before unlocking . Probably not a bad idea to include a 20A fuse in this wire. Also, make sure the driver's door is shut, as the lockin...

Re: Central Locking Actuator

Thanks for the reply Brian. I'm no auto electrician that's for sure so are you able to point me in the direction of what the problem could be regarding my actuator? Is it likely that I've bought a second duff one or is the problem somewhere else in the loom?

Central Locking Actuator

The central locking on the N/S/R door of my Touring stopped working recently. I bought a replacement actuator and fitted it but still no joy. If I put my test lamp on the connector whilst it is disconnected from the actuator the black wire is live for about a second when the doors are locked then go...

Re:

This is one I haven't seen before! There are no plugs and sockets involved with dubious reputations, and the rear door locking is normally 100% reliable, if the other locks work. Best I can suggest is that the plug may not be fully pushed in at the locking motor. Failing that, try a fresh lock moto...
