Re: Why are 90's E30 shorter than 89's?

Earliest E36s were 1990 I think, could they be referring to that?

Re: e30 prices

I am a mere peasant.

I had several E30s a few years ago when they were about bridge money.

I can't believe the prices people now ask for full-on landfill, but supply:demand etc.

£1k+ for a resto project is not unusual.

Too rich for me so I now have a £292 E36 318iS. :D

Re: E36 - catalyst and idle question

Hi Will, thanks for the suggestion. I have sprayed plenty of carb cleaner about but no difference. I did notice the breather hose off the head is very soft though so I will replace this anyway. When I undid the oil filler cap with the engine running the idle got worse, the dipstick didn't seem to ma...

E36 - catalyst and idle question

Hi all, I've recently picked up an e36 318is. 92 J plate with the M42 lump. How can I tell if it has a cat? The online VIN decoder things don't come up with one. It has a fluctuating idle, I suspect the AFM. It has a 0 280 202 134 fitted which I understand is the one without a CO pot for catalyst eq...

Re: hpi check. help

The car has not been stolen.

A number plate that was on it previously, was attached to a motorbike previous to that, which was stolen.

HPI have flagged this, but from what you have posted, the vehicle you have had checked has no record of being stolen.

Re: Is the E36 cool yet?

...The E36 is up and coming... I'd agree with this. If you want a cheap 36, now is the time. With even the sorriest landfill of Quattroporte E30s apparently now worth £5k or something, the E36s turn has to be soon. The earliest ones are nearly 25 years old and those that lusted after new ones as te...

Re: Diagnostic cables and software

ADS is the name for the interface BMW used before it was all sort of standardised in the late 90's. Basically even though the 20 pin connectors are the same from early 80s ish onwards, the communication protocols are not and the usb type leads won't work with E30, E34, E36. If you want to diagnose y...

Re: Diagnostic cables and software

I don't think the one you linked to on ebay will work on an e34. That cable looks like a cheap KKL type that would only work on newer stuff. The cable is about £5 worth and the software collection, though extensive, is all readily pirated. As Blitz said you need an ADS interface like he linked to. T...

I just think it's a bit of a liberty the amount its gone up, BMW have clearly cottoned on to the fact people use them as an upgrade and upped the price accordingly.

Not as cheap as they used to be!

Low miles and clean but £4995?

Surely having Phil Collins as a previous owner lowers the price.

E34 M50 mounts work as well.

I have a pair of 318IS mounts here somewhere which would also work.

This thread makes me do a little sad.

A couple of years ago I had 3 e30s, an e28, a 924 and a van.

Now I have no garage and only 1 car, a diesel Audi A4.

Although I have just bought an Aprilia shaped jigsaw to keep me occupied over the summer.

It depends how much your time is worth really.
My mate has a press so used it to fit some bushes and ball joints on my old van.
After a couple of hours fornicating about with the press I wished I'd splashed out the extra 25 quid to make it a quick bolt on/bolt off job.

I'd say fully synth is overkill and I used 10w40 semi synth when I last had an e30. The diesel oil thing was to do with noisy tappets on m40s I think, it was suggested that the extra detergents in diesel oil might help flush them out. I don't think there is much difference in diesel vs petrol oil an...
