rust rust rust. Look up everything you can find about the areas where rust eats these cars. Almost all the cars will have starship like mileage, unless you are lucky or spending more than 2k. Remember the rust. Look for one that has been maintained, with a nice long list of jobs done in the last few...

Re: Insurance outrage
Im sure they are doing their best to make it impossible to own cars, except for the super rich. The Police are so heavily geared up to criminlising motorists over the tiniest thing, be it 5 mph over the limit, tax a week out of date, insurance a week out, that you have to keep your admin immaculate ...

Re: Insurance outrage
Thats so creepy that this should come up just now when I actually got a form of justice only a couple of weeks ago. No need to go into the whole tale again (Im the original OP) but as I said, when I was really angry about it I spent a day sending emails and writing letters to everyone, I cant even r...

Re: 318is Steam windscreen vents, wet passenger side carpet.
Sounds heater based to me. Thanks scjimbo, I agree, Im wondering if from the symptoms anyone can tell if I need the whole matrix out and replaced, or just the inlet tube. (or outlet I suppose) I ask that because I just gave it another go, and I can switch between hot/cold air, although the cold mod...

318is Steam windscreen vents, wet passenger side carpet.
Hey all, My 318is has been sitting for a good 3 months, and I got it started again today (havent been able to as Ive been looking for someone to fix my knackered barrell/ignition, which is all done now) Anyway, I gave it a jump start and it started straight away, and so I left it running just to see...

Can anyone reccomend a mechanic in Fareham/Portsmouth area?
Hey all. Well I havent been able to fix my 318iS. The ignition is broken somewhere, I cant turn the key in the ignition (I broke a key too!) and the steering lock wont disengage. Im just stuck with an otherwise perfect 318iS, with probably a tiny bit of plastic broken or the barrel preventing it fro...

Re: Ignition/steering lock ,318is
Four in the morning. Sure you picked up the right key? Whenever I get this problem, it usually means I'm sitting in the wrong car! Have you tried some WD40 in the lock? Not the best thing to put in locks (should be graphite), but it might free things up. Lock barrel can only be removed when it's tu...

Ignition/steering lock ,318is
Hey all, Had a problem a couple of weeks ago, got in the car at 4am to set off for the airport on holiday, and the key wouldnt turn in the ignition. Im thinking its the barrel, rather than the steering lock stuck, since the key wont turn at all. I have another ignition (still in another car) and I w...

Re: whats the gonging noise in my e30????
My 318i use to gong as soon as I switched the ignition on if it was cold enough. Then would gong randomly in dips in the motorway and things when the temp dropped. My iS doesnt have it though, seriously thinking of switching the clock out for the OBC, but looks more trouble than its really worth. Th...

Re: 318is at Nurburgring.
Checked out that Nurburgring site. I think 4 laps will do me. Having had a few days at Castle Coombe, I was bloody knackered after 10 laps of THAT. Worth factoring possible damage to the track I see. So definately not worth driving the place while weary. 'The record armco bill I'm aware of is €15,...

Re: 318is at Nurburgring.
Yes I was factoring about 4-500. Recovery wise I have been well served by a normal AA Euro cover. they sorted me in Poland no problems. I had the cover specifically for the trip too, no need to sign up for a year. Not sure what the score would be if you blew up on the Ring though! Oh and I am an AA ...

A friend of the family owned this car, and I remember, must have been about 89 or 90, that it was the first car I actually had a negative opinion of. My old man had an XJS then, and the Gucci Eventer version seemed all wrong even to my young mind at the time! http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i233/l...

This might be a repost, but I just saw it, and thought it was a nice video. It gives you a good idea of why the ring is such a widowmaker at least.

You can also check if the Idle Control Valve (ICV)is gunged up. Not to mention the connections to/from the ECU from temperature and air sensors. Well if its going to turn into a 'things found in cars' thread, I heard a tale today. Friends Mk1 Capri. When he bought it, in a sorry state, it had been in a shed for years. The last tax disk expired in 1978. He leaves it in HIS shed for a few more years, and the time comes to get it going. One day...

Well I had idle troubel on another E30. All I can add to what youve already checked/replaced is breather hoses? Are they looking a bit cruddy? I like E30s just the way they are, maybe a little drop, and SOME wheels look good.
That is a definate acquired taste though.
