Guess it depends on the seat. Bought mine direct from Cobra for the Sebring S. Tiny bit of fettling and they fitted fine.

Seems like some have and some have not got these fitted, so you may be right. I'll just leave as is I think.

Just taken the door cards off my RHD 318i 2 door to find...a side impact protection bar in the passenger door but not in the driver's door. This seems a bit odd. Would one have been originally fitted to the driver's door as well?
