There was never a 323 e46 touring in the UK.
I'm not sure about manual verses automatic economy though. I get about 35-36mpg from my e46 323 saloon, although that's not much use to you!

Re: Non E30 related question
Check the air hoses and vacuum hoses for leaks, on my e46 323 (similar engione) one under the top engine cover was split and causing all the emissions to fail at MOT time. Found the split using some brake cleaner (engine revs when brake cleaner sprayed onto the split). Part was about £12

Re: Fabricage?
Jackflash, the basic cage was about £800, completelty created / painted / fitted etc. We added a couple of extras such as extra door bars (to make them X) an extra diagonal and harness bar for the passenger side so it came to about £1000 all in. We've had it extended since to the front turrets too.

Re: Harness Bar
I agree with GeoffBob, admire what you are doing, but if you are going to be using a solid race seat and harness, without a cage, a roll in the car would be dangerous. Standard car seats have some "give" should the car roll, allowing your body to move down a bit in the car. The other advantage of a ...

Re: What should I expect to pay for Major Service (Timing Be
The timing belt is a "5 spanner" ie. most difficult job according to the haynes manual, but I managed it on the race car in about 6 hours start to finish, including draining the coolant, removing the radiator, fan aux belts, covers etc etc, replacing the waterpump and timing belt and then putting it...

Thinking about chopping in my current e46 (daily driver) for another e30 though, since I only do 10,000 rather than the previous 30,000 miles a year now

On our race car there's no rubbing on the offside rear arch fuel pipes. I think since the bottom mount for the shock is slightly offset they give enough clearance... See the RPM advert here..

Does your stereo need a feed for illumination? Re: Rear coilover conversion
Our Rear Gaz coilovers with non-offset top mounts fit fine, just clearing the fuse pipes. The bottom of shock is offset slightly, maybe 10mm, which maybe gives sufficient clearance?

Yeah on a standard car the standard clip should be fine.
Although I know of a time when the standard clip broke on a race car and the fan damaged the hose and coolant went everywhere!

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but maybe remove all the bulbs listed as being used by the fuse. If it still blows then it's not a bulb, if it does not blow, start adding the blubs until it blows?
My experience (above) found it to be a faulty bulb.

It definetly looks like it. We have had to replace this part with several strong cable ties on the race car since Samco hoses have a slightly larger overall diameter than bmw ones.

Re: Dash Lights Blowing Fuse
Does this fuse also feed the small sidelights bulbs?
The reason I ask is that I went through about 4 7.5 amp fuses on my e30 until I started investigating. I found that one of the sidelight bulbs was damaged and therefore kept blowing the fuse. May of been fuse 22 or 23 if I recall correctly.

The rears should come with a new rose jointed topmount, they do from RPM or Gaz direct as far as I know.
